The media is so annoying.

Granted Pontiac will likely be gone, but CNN and Fox are both running with this story before GM has officially announced it.

They should just cancel the brand while we have good memories of it.

why leave money on the table if you can get something for it? makes no sense to just 'cancel' it.

enthusiastx11,

It make much more sense to just kill it. There are too many brands in the market and if GM sell pontiac, it would just be another competitor in the future (provided someone actually could make it viable).

Either shutter pontiac or keep it. No selling it

At what point do you think I could get a new G8 GXP for under $10K? That is the only thing they make right now that deserves the Pontiac badge.

they don't make the G8? then who does? OH yea.. holden does, which is GM, which is engineered in Australia, Germany, Korea & Canada.

Please...

sorry, I meant to erase Canada & replace it with USA, instead I erased USA and left Canada alone.

In any event, GM is a global company that has to leverage its global assets like all multinational tech/industrial companies do. Get over it.

OO1 that is a great pic you got there. The GTO is one of my all time favs. I am a little older than most of the guys that surf this site so a I can still remember when some of these were either new or slightly used. As far as the one in the pic it was about five years old when I saw my first one. I really wanted one of these by the time I hit forty but it didnt happen due to the elevated pricing that started about ten to 15 years old with the baby boomers blowing up the prices of all classics. I have read a few articles that some of the cars may suffer the same fate as the housing bubble. I hope that the GTO is one of them.

I would rather see GM sell it and get a little cash then scuttle it. The Pontiac name has a long history and like Oldsmobile it deserves to survive. It would be better off out of the GM umbrella.

Some of the most fun cars I've owned during the past 45 years have been Pontiacs.
RIP Pontiac, many of us will miss you...

The story has already been all over the web on other sites as of yesterday. Glad I didn't buy a Pontiac.

Its so sad that this had to happen. Pontiac had such history in muscle cars etc. What a waste! Its so frustrating seeing this happen to companies with such long history and then nothing. I hope the US does not go the way of the british when it comes to cars. All the major brands got sold to foreign investors. MG, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Rover, you get the picture. I just hope the US doesn't follow this route. The auto world is not exciting without balance.

As much as i love hyundai, Pontiac must stay american.

so that wouldnt be a good idea if Hyundai bought pontiac. Opel maybe, but def not pontiac.

Cyco, he's just a dickhead . He's jealous that he is not having any fun like the boomers did and still are today. Yes we will all get old and senile and still have good memories to see us out but, Hi -unday- Smoke has a hatred cancer that will eat him up

Haha, Nah, my money would be better spent buying something 2 or 3 decades older. When it hits the bottom of it's depreciation curve.

Isn't the new Camaro really a G8?(Same platform) Does this mean the Camaro is defunct along with the sale of Pontiac?

GM to sell Pontiac....Who would want it? Not for the "dealer network"...how many stand alone Pontiac dealers are there? Not many...most are Buick Pontiac GMC
If sold with Saturn (Throwing Hummer and Saab in for free?) Maybe...Most likely NOT...Wishful Thinking and Bad Journalism meet at FOX
