Geely says the GE is not a Phantom copy… Say what?
The British accused the independent Chinese carmaker Geely Automobile with what they call an imitation of their Rolls-Royce Phantom at the Shanghai Motor Show. Geely says that both cars are different only that they seem to be the same at the initial glance, but when it comes to details the cars are surely dissimilar.

But the people at Rolls-Royce are not put off, but are rather contemplating legal action against the Chinese car company. However, for most in the industry, the production-approved Chinese GE concept obviously borrowed the signature grill of the Phantom, its down-sloping rear deck, and the Flying Lady mascot. However, unlike the real deal, the Chinese version is scheduled to be available in the market with a whole lot cheaper price tag.

No it doesn't look as good as a Phantom. I feel disgraced a fellow douche bag China man even had the nerve to copy a Phantom. In a Top Gear episode they showed a Japanese automaker copy a Phantom or Bentley style car as well. Asians and copying the Europeans.

When individual Chinese citizens don't own the rights to their own independent thoughts, and risk imprisonment or worse for failing to toe the party line, it really shouldn't surprise that China doesn't recognize something as fundamental as intellectual property. I suppose in the case of China, the definition of intellectual property is that all thoughts are the property of the government.

It looks uglier on the outside, but its rear seat, despite the impracticality of getting in and out, is pretty awesome! :P

And all the things you can do on that big throne and the space in front of it :D
We might as well have the throne customized to include a toilet!!!

"Geely says that both cars are different only that they seem to be the same at the initial glance..."

Sort of like news I saw recently, a robbery suspect caught red handed on store video, was even seen smiling at the security camera, replying to police when arrested, "that ain't me.. looks like me, but ain't me"

I bet Geely even copied the name "GE" from General Electric (GE).
RR and GE both make jet engines.
Or am I thinking a bit too far?

Chinese automakers clearly copied the RR and the insides are not important. Whats important for them is how it looks arriving.

Actually, they copied A Rolls Royce but not that Phantom. This is much more the previous generation Silver Spirit.

Well, they can try and try and try and even come close since the chinese are getting better at everything over time BUT they will never come close to a Beautifully built Made-in-England Rolls Royce. I am sorry but that century old passion and charm will just not be there in a car which very well might score a 1 Star or worse - 0 Star on a safety test.

This Geely should be bashed with a hammer.

I hate the people that have not one brain in their frickin' heads for ripping off someone else.

It's simply theft!

HyundaiSmoke, I do remember that episode when Top Gear went to Japan. It is the same series in which Clarkson raced a GTR against the Bullet Train. Now, what May did say is that the Mitsuoka is a shameless ripoff but pretty good quality as well. Besides, it is not an exact copy in the design, hood mascot etc. The interior controller on the center console looked very much like the ones from the Infiniti cars.
