Toyota Acknowledges 1st Gen Tundra Frame Rust Issues
Investigative reporting by Boston’s WCVB (channel 5) seems to have uncovered evidence that 2000 and 2001 Tundras may be susceptible to the same type of frame rust that plagues same model year Tacomas. They’ve uncovered more than 2 dozen NHTSA complaints against Toyota from 00' and 01' Tundra owners.

More importantly, they've gained a statement from Toyota that seems to be an admission that the issue exists.

Quote: "using the information obtained from the Tacoma, we pro-actively investigate other vehicles of similar design and production elements. In doing so, our investigations have indicated that there are a small number of complaints for a similar condition on 2000 and 2001 Tundras..."

Toyota is all but admitting that the 00' and 01' Tundra was designed and manufactured in the same method as the 00' and 01' Tacomas with frame rust issues.

At this point, our recommendation is for anyone owning an 00' or 01' Tundra to visit your local dealership and request a frame inspection. It's important that Toyota is made fully aware of the scope of this issue, and Tundra owners are wise to receive some sort of documentation.

I heard a rumour from a very credible source that the rust issues are going to also effect all of the cars on the CAMRY PLATFORM including the ES, GS, LS, RX, Corolla, Highlander, Sienna, Venza, Matrix, Yaris, Avalon, Solera, and RAV4. I sure hope not, that will hurt the resale value of my Camry SE and I was hoping to "upgrade" to the XLE next year. Damn you Toyota.

What *are* you talking about? Boston's Channel 5 News was citing NHTSA complaints...maybe you should read before you start writing.

If they can go half as long as GM, they'll be rich!

roundwego...how about Yugo(that small piece of crap car from the early 80s)first. Joking, but seriously you're right Toyota is not good at lying, producing or selling crappy trucks and cars because they are the worlds best automotive manufacturer. Although not perfect but, they are the best of the best and this includes Honda at their best. Trust me you would'nt believe how much Honda tries to keep up with Toyota, of course you saw what happened over the last year.
