With Bargain Prices On The Horizon, What Would It Take For You To Buy An Doomed GM Car?

Pontiac dealers knew one thing was certain after General Motors Corp.'s announcement Monday made the iconic brand's demise official: The vultures would soon be out.

"We went through it a few years ago with Oldsmobile," said George Fowler, general manager of Superior Pontiac-Buick-GMC in Dearborn. "People want that big deal."

Buyers may hope for the bargain of the century on Pontiacs and other doomed GM brands -- including Saturn -- but experts say such expectations shouldn't run too high, at least for now.

An amazing Warranty such as 6 yr/100K Miles on all engine and electronics on the car and free work on the vehicle in that time frame. BMW offers 4YR/50K Miles so for a doomed GM car it would have to be better then that. The only GM car Id consider getting is a H3 or Z06.

That was DEFINITELY one of the most important things missing from the G8!

Proper Navigation system, memory seat, bluetooth, park assist (not that "I" need it), push button start, and HID headlamps were a few other things that a car in this price range should have had optional (if not standard).

I'd get a saab 9-3 aero if it were $7k brand new, or a H3 for $12k brand new. Other than that, i'll be just fine watching them go bye bye.

Will Pontiac become GM's Edsel?

Will the Aztec someday become collectible?

Will Sunfire's eventually be lusted after like Mustangs from the 60's?

Will we, the true owners of GM now that OUR Government is taking over GM ever see a return on our investment? I mean, the government makes money in every other item it controls, right?

And this is why we need an edit function, so we can better formulate our arguments without having to add an addendum to every stupid thing we say.

To kick the bucket with a blast and some dignity left, rename the Pontiac G8 the Pontiac GTO and even some of the badgewhores here would buy one.

$10k off sticker for a G8 GXP or GT, with warranty and service agreement honored at any surviving GM dealer.

"so when exactly would be the day to go in and look for a G8 GT or GXP and get an amazing deal? how does it work?" -SHOWTIME

Showtime, I had to repost your question. I would like to know also because my brother and sister both own '05 and '06 Grand Prix's they have been wanting to trade in for a G8 ever since they came out.

I'd suggest your brother and sister go try to haggle on a new one now because you can bet that as soon as GM starts slashing pricing(albeit probably no lower than employee pricing) you can bet consumers will do a smash and grab for the G8 GT and GXP first. The GT and GXP are a hard enough find as it is. You can only assume they'll be harder to find in the coming months.

Crazy enough. If GM is forced to file Ch11-Reorg, they'll get immediate govt aid (money & guidance) to re-organize the company while continuing to keep daily operations going. That also means the dealership network. The govt has already committed to guaranteeing GM's warranties so the initial value of GM's new cars & trucks won't depreciate immediately after rolling off the factory floor.

And if there seems to be major financial snags while GM is in Ch11-Reorg, some other healthier automaker (possibly foreign) will step in a buy all of GM's good assets and leave the US govt to figure out what to do with the bad/questionable parts.
