InsideLine Track Tested: 2009 BMW M3 VS. 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP
Don't get bent out of shape just yet. We know this isn't exactly a fair fight. The BMW M3 sedan requires a whole G6-worth of extra cash to bring it home, but hear us out. This is less of heads-up battle than it is a look at how much the extra $25K gets you when it comes to performance sedans.

With the soon-to-be-defunct G8 GXP, spending $42,000 puts you in one of the best Pontiac muscle cars ever. It's a missile in a straight line and surprising capable when you throw it around a little. Doesn't look half bad either.

The BMW M3 is a legend, and for good reason. It takes what is arguably the best sports sedan ever and turns it up three or four notches. That includes the price, however, and now that it's well into the $60s, we can't help but wonder if it's really worth the cash.

Disregard the number on their stickers and these cars aren't so far apart. Both have V8s up front and six-speed manual transmissions that send over 400 horsepower to their rear wheels. The bigger Pontiac weighs a little more, but its V8 levels the playing field with an extra 120 pound-feet of torque.

So is the BMW $25k faster? Or is the Pontiac the smart buy here? Check out the numbers and decide for yourself.

If performance is all that matters, get a motorcycle. A BMW, even a standard 128i offers much more than just performance over a comparably priced pontiac. I'm sure an entry level BMW offers more creature comfort and features than a fully loaded G8. Its not just about performance...

Again, if its performance that you are after, get a motorcycle, get a lotus, get a bugatti, because going 0-60 in 2.5s is priceless. going 407kph is priceless...

This is a stupid article. Pontiac is dead. The G8's been out for what, a whole year. And they want to compare against an automobile icon!!! Don't fall for it. But actually, now might be a good time to go buy that GXP on the real cheap. Just don't finance it! Cuz you'll be hooked like a trophy bass the moment they hand you the keys!

Useless article putting an Iconic sports car the BMW M3 which just beat out the Porsche Carrera in C&D to a dead brand waste of a car that company is out of business. I would gladly spend the extra cash for the BMW it will last longer and have MUCH better resale value!

Whats the point of this article anyway? BMW is going to give a bitter-sweet gift to Pontiac now that the Company will be buried six feet deep? Its like kicking your ass before you die.

Vehicles similar to the M3 (ie all AMG stuff, Vettes, etc) are really a true waste of money, unless you are doing alot of running on a "real" race track. If you are just on regular streets all the time, you are simply throwing money away. Racing from one red light to another red light is a mark of "true genius." Spending $60k plus on something as small and non-utilitarian is truely pointless exercise. Get something with REAL capability and versatility and REAL world use. Wake up!
