How Soon Will The Obama Administration Move To Kill CTS-V And The Corvette?

How Soon Will The Obama Administration Move To Kill CTS-V And The Corvette?
In remarks made in March about the auto industry, President Obama said, "We cannot, we must not, and we will not let our auto industry simply vanish." This is positive news for many, but it may actually signal the end of the consumer-driven American automotive industry.

Depending on how active the Obama administration chooses to be regarding the operation of General Motors and Chrysler (the government already forced out GM CEO Rick Wagoner), bureaucrats may restrict the types of cars these two manufacturers sell in the post bail out future. Government leaders such as Nancy Pelosi have already voiced the opinion that Americans should drive smaller, more efficient vehicles. Conditions on the bail out funds may be the vehicle used to force GM and Chrysler to build only what Washington wants them to build.

Honestly I see them canceling anything that doesn't

A. Make a predetermined mpg rating
B. Isn't profitable or marketable
C. Could be a liability (IE: Fast Cars)

So basically you peel back the onion and you get a Toyota like lineup with no guzzlers.

If that doesn't scare the crap out of you, I don't know what will.

Then again Obama might want to copy off of the EU government and the last time I checked Europe still cranked out fun cars.

BTW, whenever I hear about the Detroit auto industry going down I can't help but think about the near future Detroit depicted in Robocop--it's coming true. "Roger & Me" was also a good Mooreumentary about Michigan going down the tubes. And the writing was on the wall 20 years ago.

Guys, guys, what a stupid ridiculous thread. Agent 009 has nothing else to write about but this type of diatribe and of course, food for course its about GM, the company also demonized and despised by Agent 001. Don't feed into this. In the future, look at these threads with a discerning eye, and think before responding.

Despised? Then why have I owned quite a few of their cars?

Why did we pick the Escalade ESV as the Luxury SUV of the Year?

Today, the luxury automotive and lifestyle website AutoSpies.com named the Cadillac Escalade ESV as its choice for “2007 Luxury SUV of the Year.”

“Because of its high standards for excellence, Cadillac is especially grateful to receive this recognition from AutoSpies.com,” said Jim Taylor, Cadillac general manager. “The 2007 Escalade ESV is the product of tremendous efforts by our team to enhance and extend its appeal in every way. We’re very proud to have those efforts recognized by AutoSpies.com.”

Escalade was cited by AutoSpies.com for its design presence and enhancements in quality, fuel economy and interior luxury. Based in San Diego, Calif., AutoSpies.com is an innovative online “insider’s guide” to luxury automobiles and lifestyle.

Or praise the new CTS-V?

Or the Tahoe, Yukon and Escalade Hybrids?

Etc., Etc., Etc.

That being said the company got themselves here for making bonehead move after bonehead move for the last 30 years straight.

You don't lose what they had by making a few mistakes.

You lose it for being idiots year after year after year.

Like Kodak, Zerox, IBM and others who thought they could never lose what they had, no matter what.

Momentum is next to impossible to lose and a herculean task to get.

They are trying to ride against a Tsunami now.

Good luck with that one.

I agree to think first, but the writing is on the wall. You can either choose to believe it or not.

I have been telling you for the last two years that both Chrysler and GM were in deep trouble, and frankly you were one of the ones telling me I was wrong and to get a life.

Well my friend you can easily see both of these companies are in deep deep trouble and can not get out on their own. So now is the time to decide should we let them go, and focus on Ford to pick up their sales, or decide to bail them out of their self induced mess.

To me this is a lot like a bed ridden 700lb man that failed to take care of himself. Now he is terminally ill and sucking taxpayers dollars becuase he can't work and has saved nothing for his entire life.

Yes it is a sad state and he is suffering, but I can't feel sorry for him since it was self induced on several levels. Only the taxpayer can say if we should pull the plug

MY response is on the consistent drum beat by the two of you. Believe me, Agent 001 and 009, you guys alone have been singled out for reporting bias and this isn't something pulled out of the thin air. Of course I really don't believe anyone is defending GM for the problem they got themselves into, on the contrary, this company has completely become the poster child for corp. abuse and it would be a miracle to see them resurrect. Agent 001, you might have owned GM cars of the past, but no one can ever or would ever have guest that in a trillion years.

If the above does indeed come to pass and the two companies become a mechanism through which to insituite policy, then to whom, precisely, do these bureaucrats expect to sell their cars? People will go elsewhere if your product does not meet their needs (notably utility). That was the problem with GM and Chrysler to begin with. Government Motors indeed- the government shall be essentially their only customer. Unless, of course, they intend to force people to buy them.

"How soon we forget history...Government is not reason. Government is not eloquence. It is force. And, like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master."

Before anyone here makes a fool of themselves and thinks that I have just qutoed Ayn Rand, although it does sound a bit like her, I would like to point out that I have actually quoted George Washington.

I hesitate to even respond to this because it is so absurd, but they won't kill the corvette or CTS-V. It's a bunch of baloney designed to attract attention... page views in particular.

I hate to say it, but considering the financial mess that GM is in, I would say that nothing - including the CTS-V and Corvette - is off the table for elimination. I would hate to see these cars go, but if they don't make financial sense, then how do you justify their existence? GM with a multi-billion dollar cash hoard can build these cars. GM on life support should only build cars that make money.

If these cars can't pay for themselves, or at least tangibly demonstrate the 'halo car' effect where the limited high-performance model gets people into the showroom to buy other cars, then they need to go away until GM is strong enough to profitably sustain their existence.

Another inflammatory post by 009, no surprises here. Maybe Obama should just let all his rich corporate friends line their pockets while presiding over the downfall of the American and world economy. O thats rite, we had 8 years of that already. If the business case for a viable GM does not include the CTS-V or Corvette, so be it. We move on. It's not Obama's fault.

The problem with GM has not been the vehicles they have offered us as much as it is the built quality which has hurt resale values as well as brand perception. That being said regardless of who owns them, if they want to stay relevant they need to provide the consumer with vehicles the consumer wants or else the consumer will buy elsewhere and they be hurting even more. Halo vehicles offer a lot for brand perception and I'm sure the government realizes that they must cater to the consumer.

Do you know why companies have been moving manufacturing out of the USA for years?

It's because of the Libs and the Environmental Protection Agency.

It's the Libs that are destroying Americas industry.

Companies have been moving out of the USA because conservative greedy businessmen (aka republicans) want to make more money by using cheaper overseas labor.

Is this not a website for discussing automobiles? I don't look at this thread as some anti GM article, but merely just discussing their current state in the sh*t hole, & offering a couple of theories as to what happen happen in the future. Sure it sounds far fetched, but no more so than GM receiving bail out funds to avoid bankruptcy would've a year ago!

If someone brought up this subject & asked this question on the weekend over a few drinks you would discuss it. Why can't we just do that here without screaming out "BIAS!" "CONSPIRACY!"? I really don't believe this site is out to try & make GM look any worse than they already do, especially when they seem to be a prime advertiser on this website.

The only thing that has changed since Obuma became Presidente is gas is more expensive.

We're still dependant on foreign oil and Obuma can't change that.

I don't know, Hyundaismoke, all I see is that chirpy woman saying how nice it would be to drill for oil in Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon.

The problem with drilling in the US is that there are not enough untapped reserves to make a dent in our energy situation, but there is enough oil for Exxon to make a profit, especially if we give them oil leases, for free.

You can drill in my back yard if you want, but there doesn't seem to be oil there. It's not "drilling" but "oil reserves" that make a difference.

What a stupid troll driven thread. and if GM can't run its company someone else has to. at least we'll have cars that people actually want and cars that will help with the energy situation. Go Obama. F this small government B.S. We should let everything fall apart because of some stupid ideology? Because that's what will happen if government does not intervene. You want small government that does nothing, move to Afghanistan.
