World record: 1,445 miles on a single tank of gas in a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid
Users who have undergone a mileage-maximizing technique training, which includes smooth acceleration and coasting to red lights, succeeded in squeezing out 1,445.7 miles out of a single full-tank during a fund-raising venture in Washington, D.C. that ended today.

The feat was done by averaging 81.5 miles on a gallon in an off-the-showroom floor, non-revised 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid, considered the most fuel-economical mid-size vehicle in North America, almost doing twice as much as its original range.

I'm amazed that a Ford made it that far AT ALL, much less on a single tank of gas!

I suppose I'm not in the "people" category because I'd take a Fusion over the Camry or the Accord. In fact, for me to even consider an Accord (Camry is NOT an option in the slightest) Honda would have to put its money at its mouth and start selling the diesel version.

heh, heh, you just might.

on the other hand, you would NOT be able to get that low with a 2010 Prius. a reporter for the Detroit News tried to push mileage as LOW as he could, hot footing it, and running every electrical accessory to drain the battery, etc.

the best/worst he could do, was still about 28 mpg!

Do you have interior photos of record vehicle during test? (seats, spare tire...)
How much is the driver weight?
Did they use headlight, airco, audio...?
How much was the tire pressure during test?
Did they precharge the HV battery?
Did they follow a big truck in order to reduce airflow resistance?

1445 miles on 69 hours = ~21 mph.
Weekend started with three days drive.

Qestions, allways questions. Frankly speaking I do not believe in this experience until everyday driver can make similar.
In other hand the average 20mph can be done with bicycle on the weekend.
For me this "experience" is not serious.

If they could incorporate this hybrid system into the European Mondeo and bring that over to the States, I'd like it even more. (The European Fords looks much better IMO. I'm guess they drive better too, but I can't say for sure.)

I'd definitely give it a test drive (to compare against competitors) if I were in the market for midsize sedan.
