Breaking: April Sales Chevrolet, Ford outsells Toyota
For the first time all year, not one but two Detroit brands outsold Toyota. Chevrolet and Ford both posted brand sales that exceeded Toyota’s figures, proving that there are some silver linings, at least in Detroit, in the continuously cloudy new car market in the United States.

Both Chevrolet and Ford outsold Toyota for the first time in 2009. Toyota’s 112,345 cars and trucks couldn’t match Chevrolet’s 115,265 or Ford’s 116,263.

Toyota wasn’t the only Japanese automaker to post a bigger-than-expected sales decrease; Nissan posted its biggest decline of the year and Subaru posted its first sales slide this year.
We’ll continue to update this space as more automakers release their sales figures. It’s expected that the market as a whole was down more than 30 percent in April 2009 compared to the year prior. Remember that these figures are to be compared against April, 2008, sales. If you’re curious about market trends, you’ll want to compare to January, February and March figures.

Who are you talking about, Chevrolet, Ford, or Toyota?

Mostly Chevy. But with all of these companies still experiencing losses at the moment, I suppose all of them would apply.

Ok, that makes sense. I just couldn't tell if you were trying to just say one, all or multiple of them.

Joe you're exactly right. There shouldn't be any prizes for selling more vehicles at a loss than Toyota. We know for a fact that GM is losing money on every copy, and Ford hasn't been profitable for a long time. Maybe when they start making money AND outselling Toyota there's something to brag about...

easy to explain:

1) detroit is offering more INCENTIVES than toyota, is desparation to raise cash.

2) among brand loyalists, chevy owners are on a FASTER TREADMILL. they HAVE TO REPLACE their cars far more often. toyotas can EASILY last up to three times longer before ANY repairs begin to surface. fords can get 40% more time/mileage than chevys/gm products.

You are a blind brand loyal idiot.

xyzz is right to an extent. Its obvious his example is exaggerated. Also so many chevy and ford loyalists are so captured by the exterior styling they forget to read the technical parts and essentially they are buying the same car they have.

veyron, Even someone like you knows that every manufacturer shares parts between generations. No company is an exception to that.

Taxing Toyota 200% will be a good government plan: making a base camry about 40k.

Then what? Japan taxes our cars too? It wouldn't matter bcuz they don't buy ours neway.

or maybe the government should limit Toyota the number of cars that they could sell. who cares. this is our country and we should protect our companies fully.

Although i have to admit that we haven't been making better cars for years.

Japan will not tax American products then. They will "tax" the US Dollar. By calling for w new world reserve currency, together with Chinese (who are already getting rid of a mountain of depreciating greens, also by worldwide purchases of various resources fields or mines).

This will bring the USA to the level of Mexico or Guatemala within months.

Just don't shout what's gonna happen "when the economy get's back in shape". It will not get back in any shape until Americans' purchasing power drops dramatically. That's what caused current crisis, should you not know. So soon Camry will cost 40k without any taxation :) The bare naked 3-series will start at 60k :)

Sorry, dude. XXI Century will happen in Asia. Europe and the USA are too much in debt, have too negative account balance and have become too lazy. They are already on the decline while China, India, Korea and other Asian tigers grow.

"Japan taxes our cars too? It wouldn't matter bcuz they don't buy ours anyway."

which just PROVES how much smarter japanese are than americans.
