Can Fiat Make Trucks? Italy isn't exactly known for pickups...
When people think of fine Italian products, the list looks like this:

* Leather
* Espresso
* Magnificent sports cars
* Men’s suits
* An assortment of wines and cheeses

Please note that “truck” and/or “pickup” don’t appear on that list. Considering that Fiat is going to be a major stakeholder in Chrysler when the company emerges from bankruptcy, it’s time to consider Italy’s contribution to the truck world and what we can expect from a Dodge Ram crafted by Italian engineers.

I think a Prada Ram might sell pretty damn nicely. I could see an endorsement from Jay-Z, a limited production run, and a $20k pricing premium. Sounds like a nice little hit for Dodge...still, I hear what you're saying.

These cars are quite common on the roads of Central and South America as well as Southern Africa and Australia. They serve a myriad of purposes to their owners. This, in particular is the FIAT Strada. Leave the truck making to Ford and GM, you say? Sure. They make similar models. Chevrolet Montana, and Ford Courier are their offerings. VW Saveiro is another model. Bear in mind people, because it is not offered in YOUR home market does not make it insignificant or pointless. Different people have different needs and one size does not fit all in the automotive industry. And THAT is one of the main reasons that American manufacturers have a hard time selling their made-for-US-market-so-you-better-take-it-or-leave-it-or-we-will-invade-your-shores-and-bomb-your-airport vehicles.

That's a very reasoned response - I have to say this is the second time I've seen a good comment here on AutoSpies in as many days. As you say, the article actually says that Fiat brings a lot to the table. And for all you xenophobes who think only "Merica" can build trucks, Fiat owns Iveco - and they make trucks good enough to be found in many of the world's militarys.

Still, it is fun to think about Italian truck designers. "Luigi, we need more torque at less than 6000rpm!"

Luigi: "Why?"
