Mercedes-Benz says that KERS cannot be used by road cars
The findings reached by Mercedes-Benz after their Formula One technicians have demonstrated their Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) is that KERS has no direct bearing to road car applications.

Although the mechanical fly wheel system cannot be used by road cars, the electrical system could be adapted, but with extensive modifications just to make it appropriate. Mercedes road cars department sees no agreement between KERS and their objectives on the road car aspect. Although it is an interesting technology, Mercedes believes it has no applications now or in the future in road cars.

That's why Toyota has already said that KERS is primative compared with the system on the Prius cars

KERS is a power dense regenerative energy system. Regular hybrids are energy dense regenerative systems. While conventional energy dense hybrids can store a lot more energy and slowly let it out. KERS is a purely performance/fun enhancer that can release all of it's energy in a very short but fun period of time, with the added benefit of saving fuel over that short time. If I had to choose, I would but a car with kers over any conventional hybrid, just for the zoom button!

KERS is a product of Bernie Ecclestone and Max Mosley doing what they have been doing for the last umpteen years. Destroying F-1 as best they can. Pair off assholes.

Could not agree more..
That is why I'm leaning more toward Endurance racing now.
The technology from that sort of racing ends up on road cars!!
