Porsche’s development chief Wolfgang Durheimer says that the sports car manufacturer sees a lot of potential with the Panamera platform.

Already in the works is a convertibleversion of Porsche’s latest addition.

The Panamera convertible will not only lose its roof, but will also lose two doors. It will come with a fabric canopy roof. Powertrain lineup is expected to be carried over from the...

what porsche needs is a higher performance Cayman to extract the capabilities of the mid-engine platform, not more extensions outside it's strike zone. Porsche is heading down a dangerous path risking it's differentiation. It cannot compete broadly with the big boys across sedans, SUVs and sports cars while maintaining it's margins.

When is the targa panamera coming? Seriously, I hope this doesn't become the new 911... next they will be coming out with a panamera s, a panamera s convertible and a panamera turbo s, and a panamera turbo s targa... etc. etc. and only make about 20 of each model. Hahaha Panamera GT2/3/3rs :P

Interesting.

I imagine it looking similar to Fisker's Sunset, which would be an incredibly good looking car.

I think a two door would work.

Porsche is coming out with WAY too many cars. 11 variants of the 911, a Panamera, Boxster, Cayman. They should keep it simple! To me (IMO) makes the brand looks less attractive less exclusive especially when your going to drop $100K on a car of this type.

If Porsche came out with a 4-door convertible I would be seriously interested--but ONLY if it were a 4-door. I'm not a Porsche devotee although I've owned them in the past. 4-door convertibles are rare; the old Lincoln Continental was one and I recently bought a Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited which is the first Wrangler 4-door.

A Porsche 4-door convertible would make for a very cool double dating vehicle. You could slide in a hot blond and an associate couple in the rear for wine tasting in the Napa Valley on a sunny day for example.

For my purposes it would be a very practicle touring car. I could conveneiently toss in and retrieve all the crap I haul with me whenever I travel.

I appreciate vehicles that have good performace, practicality, functionality as well as cache'. A Panamera 4-door 'vert would serve all these needs--if it could be built. For me it would also be a practicle choice for servicing since the Porsche dealer is just down the road from me about a mile away. I would happily add one to my fleet consisting of a Toyota Landcruiser, Jeep Wrangler Rubicons TJ and JK, 2008 Dodge Viper 'vert and "55 T-Bird.
