New 6-series Convertible on track for 2011 debut
The 2011 BMW 6 Series test mules have moved onto the Nurburgring track for the usual testing. Sporting again the now BMW “trademarked” psychedelic tape, the 6er Convertible was spotted by the fellows at AutoExpress. Despite the fact that this test mule is showing off a soft top, our sources are still convinced that the final production model will receive hardtop as seen in the BMW E93 3 Series.
We’ve described the new 6er many times before, but we still owe you a quick refresher. The 2011 BMW 6 Series is slightly longer and wider than the current generation. The overall 6 Series appearance will carry over, BMW has mentioned that the new 6 will be evolutionary and keeping the premium sport car image from the current model. As signaled by BMW’s new CS concept, the automaker will be abandoning its awkward trunk design features in favor of a more streamlined design. It will have shorter overhangs and a lower roofline which implicitly gives the car a more muscular look.

The front-end is still quite covered by the camouflage, but we expect to see a headlight combination between the CS Concept and the 5 Series GT.

The 2011 6-Series will offer more legroom for rear passengers. At the same time, it will get a sportier cockpit with a more driver oriented console layout, a trend seen in the most recent BMW models or concepts.

I was hoping they would bring the redesign sooner. Like late this year as a 2010 model

Let see the car....for now it looks as a failure.......At least it does not have the ugly grile of the 7 Series.

I wish you people on her would stop judging a car on its camo looks and concept styling. as far as i know this car cannot be judged yet you dont have a clue on what its going to look like and you dont know the performance level its going to be on. the only thing i can comment on is the convertible roof I hope they dont do a hard top because the soft top look so crazy on it now i think they should carry it over to the new model. ever since lexus built that IS250 hardtop cabrio at the NY car show I get sick of looking at hardtop convertibles. soft top looks extremely sexy especially when the car is white with the black soft top...soft top should come back they make the roof line look alot smoother than getting a hardtop that looks like a jigsaw puzzle.

B7, this is the only article I've seen that says they think the car will be a hardtop, every other source has said it's going to stay a softtop.

Though if you want to see a beautiful hardtop convertible, go look at a new Z4. Saw it and drove it yesterday at my local dealer, they had a black base model and a blue turbo with the dual clutch and white leather (I guess every dealer nationally got those same two cars). Stunning looking, and it wouldn't look nearly as good with a softtop.

you probably have a point. I just saw one on ebay and it looks nice but hardtop convertibles dont work for every car(EX...IS250)some of them look like a jigsaw puzzle like the 3 series when the roof is up. I just think with this particular car I would stay old school with it and keep it soft top it just has a smoother look to me.

So Far only 2 seater vehicles seem to have the right Hard Top roof design.
SL/SLK/Z4

All 4 seater attempts have been poor
SC/3-Series/C70/G37.........

With certain cars (Nissan GTR, Mercedes GLK) with a 2010 car our already, makes sense this car will come out as a 2011 Car. I am sure it will look good and I am very interested to see how the new M6 Coupe/Cabrio will look as far as power is concerned. Looks like BMW (as far as now) is going to switch to a turbo V8 versus the current V10.
