Prius Beware: Honda Insight Becomes Best-Selling Vehicle In Japan
The 2010 Honda Insight hybrid, which went on sale in Japan on February 6, has been ranked the industry’s best-selling new car in Japan for the month of April. Honda sold a total of 10,481 units of the Insight, making it the first time a hybrid model has held the spot in Japan for a monthly sales period.

Honda said that its Fit was the best selling new car in Japan in 2008 and the fiscal year ending March 31, 2009. Fit was also the best-selling car in March for the fourth consecutive month until it was knocked out by the Insight.
Toyota has made it clear that it is aware of the challenges set forth with Honda’s new hybrid.

I drove one this weekend. Obviously the power is underwhelming, but I think it's a screaming value if economy and comfort are your main focus. Good seats (manual, power is not an option), firm but not jarring ride, relatively quiet at speed.

This is not surprising since it looks like a Prius and is priced less. It also gets less MPG that even the current Prius. I dont like either one but I could see why it sells more in Japan. However The US is a different animal.

And on Toyota's website, it lists the new Prius at a starting price of $22,000, not $21,750, therefore, it is $1500 more than the Insight.

I'd still rather have the Accord hybrid, and I would remove the HYBRID badging.
