Hyundai Equus spotted in the U.S. once again (with huge gallery)
Exactly a week ago, Agent001 spotted the Hyundai Equus driving around in LA hit the Internet. Now, the large luxury Hyundai sedan has been spotted once again.

We’re not sure if this Equus is one of the 100 being shipped over to Hyundai dealerships in the U.S. to gauge the interest of U.S. consumers - but it’s a very high possibility.

The Hyundai Equus made its stateside debut at the 2009 New York Auto Show. The model on display was the Equus VS460. It is powered by a 366-hp 4.6L Tau V8 mated to ZF 6-speed automatic transmission.

Looks good in black.

Hopefully it will make it in the U.S.

Question, I know that the hood ornament would likely get ditched if the car was sold here, but do U.S. laws even allow pointy hood oranaments like that anymore? I thought they were banned for not being "pedestrian friendly".

Benz's hood ornaments dont look like knives though...

And the Benz emblems actually bend when pushed, so it doesn't hurt your "area" when hit by a car!

it looks better than i expected [fro a hyundai]... but to be honest, for 75K, there are MUCH better alternatives.

Perception adds a lot of the said "value." Thats really the Biggest if not the only thing that will hinder this vehicle. That and the economy

Where do you guys keep getting 75K from? I see this vehicle topping out @ 55K max. Hyundai knows that they have a great vehicle on their hands but we are still swallowing the Genesis pill.

A 75K or even a Hyundai over 60K wont fly yet.

I didnt think anything about your comment until I was looking @ my friends TL yesterday. I tilted my head upside down and I see what your talking about now.

Looks generic. Slap a Lexus badge on it and everyone would hate it.

That's true. But then again, this is their 1st try so I don't think anyone expected them to be innovative in designing this thing. I think the main problem with Lexus is that they have no "signature" on their designs. BMW has the Angel eyes, and Kidney grill, L shaped tail-lights, Audi has the big grill and rectangular headlights, Mercedes well... it's just simply Mercedes!

They have used the emblem for 10+ years in Korea

The failure of VW Phantom seems to be repeating with Hyundai.
A text-book "line extension" mistake in marketing. When a company is initially successful, they think they are invincible and can do no-wrong so that they keep expanding to uncharted territory. Treading on thin ice, if you ask me.

Hyundai needs to set up a luxury brand first before pushing vehicles at that
price range and with a high-end service to go with them. Throw big money on
ads also. Big money.
Perception is everything for high-end vehicle.
People who care about bang-for-the-buck will never buy luxury vehicles to
begin with. Luxury is all about show-off and indulging yourself.

They should concentrate on making the Genesis, both sedan and coupe, a success first. Get a couple model years under their belt, then maybe make a try at a higher price point. Right now, anyone looking to drop $50K plus will probably not think of Hyundai.

(Im assuming the competitors are: 7series, Sclass, and LS.)

I might drop 50-55K on the Equus if it came equipped like its competitors. Thats a steal @ 30-35K less than the competition.
