Chrysler/Fiat cars will receive visual and engineering upgrades
The vehicles that will hit U.S. roads as a result of the Chrysler/Fiat alliance will need more than just visual upgrades. According to Jim Hall, an analyst from 2953 Analytics, with engineering upgrades to meet U.S. standards, it will take Chrysler/Fiat about 18 months to introduce vehicles on the stateside.

In its viability plan submitted to the U.S. Treasury in February, Chrysler said that six Fiat-based vehicles will come to the U.S. and...

I wonder if they are referring to the emissions standards, or the safety standards or both... I have heard varying stories about safety standards, stuff like the American's don't require roll hoops on convertibles, and that European's standards would allow an engine block into the compartment and still pass.

Most likely the same proces when Toyotas, Nissans, Hondas and the like are Modified for the american market. Very simple

Let's face it. Despite how terrible of a company Chrysler is, their auto style designs are fantastic. I am sure that the Fiat/Chrysler will have an appealing look and finally some good engineering. I just hope that Chrysler doesn't implement their engineering into it.
Chrysler cars are crap, let's face it. They don't last. Chrysler service departments are the most profitable of any auto manufacuturer, why is that? They aren't engineered to last.
Let's just hope that Fiat demands their engineering to stay in the car and Chrysler can just add the "lipstick". Anything else will equal failure.

"their auto style designs are fantastic"

If you mean blocky with unnecessarily large body panels, then yes.

While there aren't any "Chryslers" that I like the looks of (There are a few nice Dodges), I have to admit, there efforts in design far out do the far more profitable companies. So many different designs may be Chrysler's biggest downfall on the styling end. But I give them more design kudos then Porsche who not only try to keep the molds for 20 years but also use them on every model variant in order to maximize profitability *sarcasm*

pageman I highly dissagree. All of the chrysler products ive owned have treated me very well. To say "chrysler cars are crap" is just not true. Sounds like more of an emotional statement on your part and definately not fact

Let's face it - you have no idea what you are talking about. I have owned Chrysler products all my life and while they are not perfect, to say that their engineering is crap is ludacris. Maybe Chrysler's service departments make a profit because they do not lose money from warranty repairs. The only US auto maker that adds "lipstick" is GM.
