Financial crisis kills the Volkswagen BlueSport Roadster
The Bluesport Roadster caused speculations of a revival of the roadster segment, when it initially showed in the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year. The rumor was laid to rest the previous week and this week VW annnounced that it might not build the car.

The current state of affairs at VW with regards to the Bluesport concept is that are circumspectly calculating how to profit with a niche car. The Bluesport is a niche product that will be a challenge to produce in volumes that the company consider profitable. There will be disappointments from all quarters of fans of the concept. VW acknowledges the difficulties the industry is in currently and hopes that the economy will make a turn for the better so that the roadster may see the light of production. The small two-seater has been in waiting for a long times and Bluesport might get a chance to go through to production. The concept is not just an athletic two-seater but it also had genuine eco-friendly credentials.

Car looks sweet. To bad but at least consumers wont be plagued by another VW product plagued with electrical problems.
Good looking car though.

Why is it that during a financial crisis the fun cars are always the first to go. Even the high-volume sales fun cars get axed in favor of 98hp econoboxes. Sad.

Sales are very low for all cars. Econobox sales are down as well as fun car sales. Why Ax just the fun cars?

because we tend to purchase practicality over excessiveness during times of need. Would you purchase a PS3 over a coat for your son? Yeah, its like that.

Not surprising really, that car would be eating into Audi sales, and Audi would never let that happen.

The last time I owned a VW was in 1986 when My wife and I were racing a VW rabbit in a spec class. This new car might have possibly marked my return to VW ownership, especially if they were to build a coupe version. Unless they build something RWD, I won't return ever. I am of the same opinion for all other manufacturers also. I am done with FWD.
