This IS Not A Joke: Toyota's Prius Design Will Influence Future Toyotas
Whether you're enamored or disgusted by the Prius' aesthetic, you'd better get used to the new styling cues.
The 2010 model is the shape of things to come for Toyota, debuting a few new forms that will infiltrate the rest of the automaker's line-up in the near future. Toyota's global design chief, Wahei Hirai, calls the styling of the new Prius "free-form geometrics," and a few of the more prominent elements -- including the hybrid's sharply-creased corners, slit-like front grille and bolder, more pronounced hood badge -- are all bound for future models. Good thing or bad thing? Tell us in the poll below the fold.

bad thing... and this is why "more pronounced hood badge" aka "more pronounced sack bulge"

Just tried to fold my computer screen so I could look below the "fold." No luck. Did you forget who you were writing for? :-)

The front of the Prius isn't all that bad for a small car. the sides and the rear are where it all goes to hell. However I'm sure Toyota will make the new design work for its goal of being unoffensive.

Are you kidding me? Just one look at a Tata or a new micro-bus style car from all manufacturers, this Prius is like a hot chick in spandex.
The future is bright for Toyota and with the US Gov's new fuel economy law, don't expect gorgeous lavish designs. This, for the grade maker, is more than appealing.

It's a good looking car, great update on the last gen. I can see some of those design elements working on other models. The crease along the side, the sculpted headlights. Even the prominent emblem is more successful here than on the Camry, as it bulges the hood up to the windhshield, giving the vast expanse of hood some charachter and joining the emblem to the rest of the car. The Camry bulge, in contrast, just juts out unexpectedly.
