Fast, Furious, And Frugal: Could These Be The Best Choices For Being Fast and Efficient?

Fast, Furious, And Frugal: Could These Be The Best Choices For Being Fast and Efficient?

President Obama's announcement today that automakers must achieve a fleet-wide fuel-efficiency average of 39 miles per gallon for passenger cars will directly affect some of the fastest--and thirstiest--cars on the road.

The requirement, set to take effect in 2016, will save a projected 1.8 billion barrels of oil over the next five years. It incorporates California's strict emissions rules nationwide--and it's quite a bit stricter than the current 27.5 mpg efficiency requirement.

True speed demons will have to wait to see how their favorite models are changed in the future, if at all, to meet the new standard; in the meantime, we've compiled a list of the fastest, most fuel-efficient vehicles on the road.

Funny, they left out the zr1 and used a base corvette instead. With 638hp, and 604 lb-ft and 16/20mpg it would have beat out the 480hp porsche with only a few mpg more. Assuming their 2:1 weighing scale though. Another car they didn't mention was the viper, that one would have beat out the r8 :S afterall it does have 600hp with 13/22 mpg, vs the audi's 420hp and 13/18mpg

This day was always coming. The end of the road for those throaty V8s.
If you have a classic car or was thinking of buying one, now is the time. Buy it, sit on it for 10 years and these classics, and I am talking 1980's 90's power cars will be the new classic cars at auctions.
We all don't want this day to come our planet is in peril so someone has to put their foot down.
As much as I want to put my foot down, on an gas pedal, I will have to make due with a sewing machine motor and just horrendous designs I guess.
Don't kid yourselves. You won't be able to buy a 300hp fun machine 10 years down the road and your kids will have to find something else for their mid-life crisis. Who knows what they will have then.
So enjoy your toys boys. Our days are numbered.

Is that why people buy corvettes as well? Because it imitates the also very successful C6R/C5R? Ohhh wait, that isn't the Corvette's only selling feature.

Maybe some day you'll get to drive one, and provided you can drive properly, maybe that day you'll realize what a a foolish comment that was!

hey vwrules, climate change is a trend you can only measure over decades, so do some research, learn something, then argue. plus in your logic, i'd like you to remember me in september when they'll be talking about the record highs. not that it matters so much in a scientific way, but it will help turn off your rubbish rambling, so...
