Latest Study Indicates Audi And VW Models Make Major Strides In Reliabilty
The all-new 2009 Audi A4 has required fewer repairs than other recently introduced upscale sedans, according to new results from TrueDelta’s Car Reliability Survey (CRS).

Other reliability surveys update annually. TrueDelta’s updates quarterly. This permits TrueDelta to quickly provide reliability information on new car models. Today’s update includes owner experiences through March 31, 2009. With this update, TrueDelta’s car reliability information is about a year ahead of other sources.
According to TrueDelta, the 2009 Audi A4 has required 37 repair trips per 100 cars per year—similar to the benchmark Honda Accord. The implication: most of these cars will not require any repairs in their first year. Among other new-for-2009 upscale sedans, the 2009 Hyundai Genesis has required 67 repair trips per 100 cars per year—not far from the average—and the 2009 Jaguar XF has required 147.

Further suggesting that the Volkswagen Group, which includes Audi, has substantially improved reliability, owners of the 2008 and 2009 Jetta, Rabbit, and GTI also reported low repair rates.

Another new 2009 model, the Ford Flex crossover, has required 38 repair trips per 100 cars per year, edging out the Honda Pilot’s 43. This reinforces Ford’s emerging reputation for first-rate product reliability.

“Most people would like to buy a hot new car while it’s still new and hot. But many have been afraid to do so without reliability information,” notes TrueDelta founder Michael Karesh. “With TrueDelta’s research process, people no longer have to choose between waiting and taking a major risk.”

Will the latest Audi A4 continue to require few repairs as it ages? With prompt quarterly updates, TrueDelta’s Car Reliability Survey will be the first to report any changes. The previous generation A4, introduced as a 2005.5 model, continues to be about average in reliability.

TrueDelta: Useless information wrapped in an ad for TrueDelta.

You might want to pull the head out before you speak, or is simply having the correct information too much for digest?

Actually True Delta gauges the severity of the issue vs simply just an issue. So a serious issue is given a certain weight. The next most notable study, weighs a cup holder breaking as the same as a transmission falling out of the car.

I don't know about you but I can probably find a place to set my big gulp for a while until I fix the cup holder, but that transmission may need a bit higher sense of urgency to correct it.

Basically you simply need to use your resources and at least TD lets me determine the actual reported reliability from owners vs simply a non-descriptive score.

All all depends how deep you go.

That's not nice. Address my comment, not me.

I'm basing my comment on more than this "article." I've seen TrueDelta present information based on data from just a few vehicles. That, combined with this "ad-icle," makes me hesitant to put any faith in the information until I see some solid reporting.

That's good that they finally are learning how to properly make cars.

Yet Audi outscores BMW and Mercedes-Benz in JD Powers all the time in terms of quality and reliability. So, maybe BMW and MB need to learn to make proper cars. Your statement is a joke!

Meh, just an INITIAL reliability survey. The cars are too new to have any long term data. While initial reliability is certainly a good thing, I'm more concerned with long term reliability. If that also turns out to have increased then congrats to VW and Audi.

It only took them 75 years to achieve this.

*ahem* 2009 model was just released last year and they are comparing that reliability to cars who's repairs have been accumulating since 2005, like the previous A4 model? Obviously, as a car ages, there will be more trips for repairs and over the life of the car the frequency may change relative to the average. For example, even though the 2009 A4 has few repairs in the first 6 months, what about the next 18 months? It is crazy that they attempted to compare the repair record of the previous A4, which had 3 years of data, to the new A4 which has 6 months of data, and much fewer cars sold to boot.

Look at JD Powers stats. Audi still outscores BMW and MB. So what's your point?

Two of my friends bought the latest Audi A4 from the same dealer within the first month one needed a new engine the other a new gearbox I would call your comments lacking somewhere down the line! I have had an XF Jag for nearly a year now one minor problem with the filler flap, dealer fixed it in 15 minutes without an appointment, this is my third Jag I couldn't ask for better reliability so for me your report is frankly flawed!
