Car and Driver's 0-60 times for the Lexus IS and BMW 330 off?

From Blogger John...

By the way, in a comparison test conducted by C&D that included both the 330i and the IS350, the Lexus posted a 5.1 second 0-60 time with the 330i coming in at 6.0 seconds (not within the 6.5 - 6.7 range you mentioned). "LOL" dude, so funny considering the BMW has 50 LESS HORSEPOWER than the Lexus. If Lexus and you think that the Lexus is a better car because it has more power and bullet-proof reliability, that's fine, because those are acceptable reasons for liking a car. I, however, want a car that isn't afraid to be a true driver's car, unlike the Lexus which is basically a Toyota with a taught suspension and a big motor.

Note: In today's 'Taste of Lexus' event, the pro drivers reported that they were getting 5.6 second times for the IS350 and 6.7 second times for the 330 sport.

In my test drives today, the IS350 was SUBSTANTIALLY faster than the 330i sport.

If you own either, we would love to hear what you're geting in the real world...

Lexus has been tested my many professional driver, it has been claim that IS350 blast 0-60 in 5.4 second or even lower in like 5.1 second. As far the BMW 330 sports at the Lexus event, a professional driver test it from 0-60 in 6.7 second that pretty slow if you ask me for a BMW. And for the Lexus IS 350 in 5.6 second that not bad compare to the BMW 330 sport 6.7 second. But other professional driver has claim that it blast 0-60 in 5.1 second. It does Not matter because I know the Lexus IS 350 is way Faster than the BMW 330 sports. And please don't bitch and cry and then bring in that M3 for comparison. The M3 is in the Porsche Segment. If you want to compare the M3 with the IS, just wait until the IS460 with 450-500+ Horse Power come out of production than compare it at that time.

LOL...................:), you 330 lover are cracking me up. Stop your crying and bitching, move on and accept the fact that IS 350 beat your BMW 330. What more to said, professional driver has tested both the BMW 330 and Lexus IS 350 head to head and the Lexus IS 350 win. Hey BMW 330 is still a great car but I think would rather drive the Lexus IS 350 instead. I wonder is that why BMW 330 is coming with a 333 ponie BMW 330, or maybe because Lexus IS 350 just show them a thing or two about speed, power, and performance. Don't worry Lexus Lovers and fans, I heard that Lexus will come with it super charger Lexus IS 460. Lexus IS 460 would have some where between 450-500 Horse Power more than enough to beat their 333 ponie 330 and their M3 for sure. And it is now being testing in Germany, Bow to your new King the IS 350/460, oh..master..master.. we are not worthy, LOL.......:)

What's funny to me, that I haven't seen mentioned with these comparisons, is that the Lexus IS 350 being tested is an AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I seriously doubt the 330 0-60 numbers are coming from the BMW "steptronic" auto trans... And you can't even claim that the Lexus' auto is an "SMG" style transmisison with an electronic clutch, and thus on the same level as a manual; I think it's just another shiftable auto (a la "steptronic/tiptronic/etc.") -- hydraulically-controlled. If anyone has proof to the contrary, let me know.

So the 330's MANUAL trans is 1 - 1.5 seconds slower than the IS 350's AUTO trans??!!

Flame on. :-)

The IS is geared for acceleration, not top speed, whereas the 3-series has to excel at higher speeds because in Germany there is a thing called the Autobahn.

The less-HP 3-series has a higher top speed (electronically limited as well) than the higher-HP lexus. Go figure.

Now you may argue that top speed is useless in day-to-day driving, which is true, but it goes somewhat to explain the difference in performance.

Also, the Lexus has a bigger engine. Apples and oranges?

It's nice to see Bmw owners squirm. Keep defending your over priced, underpowered, unreliable, fugly banglized 3 car. I can't wait til the new IS 460 rules the new M3 also.

Compare it to a 2006 Subaru Legacy GT limited. It most likely will blow it away on the 0-60, as it did the 2005 Audi S4. You can get a loaded Subie with nav for $31,000. I'll take the Subie.

This whole IS vs 3-series war will end shortly.

Toyota is about to release their new Camry.

When all you Lexus fans see how close these cars are in design and interior refinement, youll want to swallow your tongues.

The new Camry is going to have a 270hp V6.

The styling is DRAMATICALLY similar to the IS

The point is....We knew the IS was a Toyota...and now so will everyone else.

...is a nice car, not doubt. And the new 3-series only looks good with the full 330i sport package put on to it (320i looks hideously cheap). What I like about the Lexus is that the design seems to carry on around the whole car...the 3-series starts off with one design, sharp angles strong lines and then ends on rear lights that are rounded? anyway...I'd still take the BMW, not because I'm a fan of them...in fact I'm not...but Lexus has never revved my motor. It just doesn't speak to me or represent me or who I am in any way.

And whether the Lexus goes a bit faster is largely irrelevant in everyday driving anyway...much like top speeds and handling at said top speeds. I honestly am not going to get from point A to point B any quicker in the IS350 over the 330i. If you're buying the car just to say ooh I can get to from 0-60 in a second quicker (but never really do) then perhaps you need to have a refective moment with yourself. Rather spend less and get a tincan hatchback and put a huge turbocharged motor in that. Just the other day I saw a Suped up Fiat Uno Turbo (aformentioned tincan) take out a 2003 M3 and you know what...I'll take the M3 thank you.
