Bmw to offer precipitation radar to keep you away from the rain
It is claimed by the Bavarian carmaker BMW that it is the first to offer customer the option of viewing the up-to-date precipitation for any German location via a graphic display on the LCD screen of their vehicles. This latest service, called ConnectedDrive system, is offered by BMW as a further development of the car’s existing weather forecast capabilities. BMW says that there are two zoom settings available on the precipitation displays which are updated every 15 minutes and display the geographical distribution of rain, snow or hail. But that’s not all. Beginning July 2009 BMW said that it will add a menu option called Precipitation Pattern which will provide cloud movement representation in animation which will cover the preceding 90 minute period.

Big deal, this isn't an aircraft, so it's not like flying into windshear - Germans ever heard of iPhone Apps that give you the weather. We don't need more gizmos, just a good driving car.

So instead of offering a valid counter-argument to his assertion, you quite predictably lash out with the most-stereotypical bs you can think of? You couldn't even make up a story about you knowing a guy with a Lexus that spontaneously combusted or something?

How much will it cost to repair the sensor when it breaks??? That's what usually happens with Breaks My Wallet(BMW) cars right?

Yeah, but you'd still be able to get out of the car and look at the car without getting dizzy and falling on your face :)

I agree with this system, bimmers don't work on anything but freshly paved, dry, dust and lint free roads... throw some pebbles or rain drops and you've got yourself a widowmaker.

potholes = bimmers worst enemy :(

The Acura TL has a doppler radar system built into the nav system which tells you every type of weather conditions first and only so big deal "Advance" a step up from the regular weather systems that other companies have copied (i.e Lexus RX) implemented first on the RL.

You know, I really wished we could have had a thread that dealt with the issue of the article, rather than dissolve into some Lexus-BMW-Has-Been rambling. This bit of technology is only one more thing to go wrong with a BMW, or ANY other car for that matter. Waste of time.

M53R, I drive a 3G TL-S, so I never get dizzy when I look at it. I like looking at it and as an added bonuswomen really like it too, which is a good conversation starter for them. Most want to get one afterwards

My Venza has XM NAV-Traffic. What's the difference between the two? BMW has been too full of them selves lately.

At least it's not a bloated Malibu. You should be the last to talk, since the Malibu isn't even available with an OEM navigation system.

Doesn't it simply turn on your windshield wipers half a second before the rain hits?
