Acura Next In Line To Add 4-Door Coupe To The Lineup? Smart? Or BrainFart?
Jeff, I got something for you in Japan. Sorry for not having time to work out the text, but from what I understood very quickly, there is not much real information. Here is what I think I got of what seems Honda's answer to the "4door coupe" incipient market according to Hollyday-Auto (June 2009 issue):
- expect it for 2010 (calendar year).
- should sit in between the TL and TSX in terms of size (see the figures on the table).
- should get similar powertrain-transmission combo as the ZDX.
- styling wise, think about a dropped-off ZDX.

Cheers,

Daniel

Good move for Acura or too little, too late?

And will it be called the TDX?

well, on the plus side that looks about 1000x better than any other vehicle in the Acura lineup. On the minus side it looks 1000x better because it's a clone of an Infiniti G coupe. It'd be nice if Acura could come out with something good looking that was actually identifiable as an Acura, instead of as a knock off of something else.

With a family a 4 door is all I drive. This will open many doors for people that want it all, sportiness and family hauling ability.

Looks like fusion of G37 and Genesis Coupe. I expect to see people start throw up again once Acura attach their proud beak on the grille.

Or is it a Genesis Coupe/Z/G37/RX-8 competitor with suicide doors?

I think they should just make an actual coupe...2 door. RWD (I know, I know) or AWD. I'm in the market for something like that. Seems like there's nothing exciting until you get into the G37 price range and I don't want to spend $40,000.

Smarter move the the "God-awful" ZDX, still looks like a car out of the 90s.

Keep it a Honda.

Call it the Prelude.

Instant hit.

Wow, another possible front heavy Acura/Honda. So exciting.

Not bad. However, is it me or am I staring at the front end of an SL class, the mid-section of a 911 and the tail end of a 599 - but not quite as exquisite on any one front?

Where's the 4 dr? It's clearly a 2 dr coupe aiming @ G37 and 3, if FWD is considered as qualified. For that reason I think it might be AWD and turboed......

I would not hold my breath. Acura had been a disappointment lately.

Only thing Acura needs a RWD and a Coupe, everything else is brainfart especially that hideous ZDX :(

UAW, why wouldn't people consider Acura to be a luxury car maker? Because they have no V8 and no RWD? Those are performance attributes, not a sign of luxury. What LUXURY features do the Acuras lack that the other luxury makes have?

Honda needs to cancel Acura, what a poor excuse of a company from design to service. Hard to believe they are the same company. Acura should be avoided. Honda is still very good though.

It looks like a graphic done by a junior graphic designer who is just sketching. I don't think a 4 door would look like that. I think the 4 door coupe should sit above the TL in between that and the RL.

Acura still needs to stop rebadging their cars for the US/CAN market because they have shown a lot of potential since the start of the division on stateside. The previous two generations of the TL have been very stylish cars with notable luxury features and comfort.

The new TL has a great fit and finished interior but that exterior proportions and beak should be changed for the next generation. The RL needs to change as well if they want to progress into a serious contender in the luxury market. They are years ahead of Hyundai that's for sure but it seems that Infiniti and Acura has something holding them back, I can't pin point it.

If they build it, I might start getting excited about Honda products again. It's been too many years of non-exciting products from Honda/Acura.

For a long time now there have been plans to bring back a CL. I could see this coming out as a TL which would be a TL coupe or 4door coupe. It takes too much to sit "between" two models just like a CLS & Passat CC are 4door coupes of current models and the CL was a coupe of the TL.

So they added a set or rear suicide swing doors (a la 2nd gen Saturn SC) to a Honda Accord Coupe? Oooooooooo. :-/ I'm seeing either a RSX return or TSX coupe.

Maybe they should concentrate on making their other models look better and be more competitive than its competitors which are getting farther away by the day. I do see a regular slotted grille and no beak though, good start.

Other items to work on:
-Bring back the Type S with more power and cleaner lines (think AMG).

-Offer a V8 in the MDX

-Offer a V6 in the RDX

-Offer a V6 in the TSX, oh and put in some AWD while your at it for options. I mean the Honda Element has the same 2.4L engine, I'm sure you can fit the drivetrain in for AWD.

-Destroy the beak and give something more appealing to the eyes

-Do something with the RL, give it S-class, LS, 7-series proportions with a V8 powerful enough to move it.

-

SMART. Just as long as Acura don't install that silly looking grill like the TL.

Stylistically, looks like the old G35 coupe from the front. I recently "defected" from Acura cos they disco'd the RSX. Acura has a better chance of selling a 1-series/G37 competitor, not going high-end 4-dr coupe. Christ, the new TL looks like a goddam fishbowl as it is - Acura already has an ugly ass 4-door coupe.
