Rumors: More insider info on the new Audi R8 Lemans

Dear 001,

No official word yet on the whether or not the car will come to the US or when, however the outlook is very good. We will probably see two engines offered in this car; the biturbo V8 will be first, possibly followed a year later by a V10 version. The all-aluminium chassis is supposed to weigh in at only 3300 lbs. This should be a very fast car with numbers rivaling that of the 911 Turbo and Aston Martin AMV8. It will be priced very close to both of those cars. The V10 version (if produced) will compete more directly with the exotica of Ferrari and Lamborghini, possibly even the Carrera GT and priced above $150K.

This came to us from our blogs from an Audi dealer somewhere in the USA....

I think Big Money and Mike 8 r correct in some way.

R8 in my opinion will not be a big hit like f30,911 turbo,gallardo,SL...etc

but i hope good luck for it because i like Audi and particularly this new R8 and also Adui is improving as by now they r not less than any brand in the world.

But i think people will not be happy paying 130-10K for R8 insted of F30,Gallardo,DB9,SL,911 Turbo...etc

Well wait and watch.

AUDI IS NO LESS THAN ANY

The most beautiful car of recent times finally is official! It will bring an excellent alternative to other sport cars, such as the 911 which has not changed its looks in ages. The Aston Martin? it's all name and no longer a pure breed. People wanting something different, new, sporty and exciting will definitely consider this fabulous car. I would choose this car over anything but a Veyron. Audi is the anti-traditional in this class where everything else seems to need a huge refresh!

To say that Audi is like Saab or Volvo when this brand ranks tied with MB as #1 in Germany is really plain ignorant and honestly ... dumb.

I have a 2004 BMW 645. I'm thinking about getting the M6 when it comes out. But, I think I'll wait for this car. I think the R8 Lemans looks fantastic. It's bolder than any exotic car I've seen. I love the fact that it looks like it came straight out of a science fiction movie.

The one concern I have is the engine numbers. 610HP out of 5.0L V10 motor is a high number indeed, but this is with two turbos. BMW can get 500HP out 5.0L V10 motor and it would be normally aspirated. However, the M6/M5 V10 BMW motor has really anemic torque (I can bench press more torque!) Yet, the Audi engine is force inducted, and I expect HP to be somewhere past 700HP. I'm hoping that Audi has de-tuned the motor so as not to encroach on Gallardo performance envelope.

Regardless, it's a fantastic car, and I will definitely wait to see how this car will smoke the M6.

Hoorah for competition. In the end, the consumer wins out.
