Chrysler to invest $448 million in electric-vehicles and plug-in hybrids
Despite still being in bankruptcy court, Chrysler announced yesterday that it has submitted three proposals to the U.S. Department of Energy that outlines a $448 million plan to “rapidly bring” electric-vehicles and plug-in hybrids to the market.

The plan represents a 50/50 cost-share opportunity where Chrysler LLC and its partners (meaning Fiat SpA) will invest $224 million combined with a DOE matching that with the same number.

If this is a viable direction, then its good news. There are many avenues to take with current technologies. It will be interesting which one is the golden egg.

More plug-in EVs? From what I have seen it appears plug-ins have a pretty long way to go before they are practical.

Probably not a wise move, granted, Chrysler already has a vested interest in these vehicles.

This should read: Chrysler "investing" $448M of your money in bogus vehicles.

Seriously, they can barely build conventional cars, how about making a decent regular vehicle first. And half a billion is probably rather slim for a full development program, not that they can afford even that to begin with.
More power to them if this was their money but it's not, it came out of our paychecks. It's a bullet-point on a bogus development plan that makes them look like they're doing something so later they can come back and take some more of our next paychecks.

Land of the Free ... loaders. A shame!
