Lotus To Source Upcoming Esprit V10 From ..Lexus?
For Lotus fans, the next few years should prove to be very interesting times as the company pushes ahead with its five-year-plan to update its model lineup, including successors to the Elise and Esprit. Lotus has already unveiled its new Evora, but rather than sitting still with this car, work on the new Elise and Esprit is already well underway at the company’s Hethel engineering center in the UK.
While the future Elise may be seen as early as 2011, of more interest is the flagship Esprit successor, which
EVO
is reporting could come with an optional V10 engine sourced from Lexus.

Lotus has had success and continue will have success if they continue to use Toyota power plants. Evora looks like another success and they better not equip that new Esprit from anything especially the POS gearboxes, from Renault!

V6, V8 and V10 options? Could be a bit crowded with a V6 in the line-up.
Would love to see that screamer V10 from the Toyota Supra/Lexus LF-A in the next Espirit.

That photo is hot. It doesn't matter which power plant is used that car would be a head turner. Since Lotus have used Toyota motors before I don't see they wouldn't use the V10 from the LF-A. Lotus could also use the V8 from the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and tune it up, it would definitely sound nice too.
Lots of options in the world of V10's. They all sound amazing so Lotus can't really go wrong.

how is it possible to make some of the BEST engines better? lotus does not radically change the toyota engines they use. the corolla engine in the elise only gets 10 hp more.
the v6 from the camry going into the evora gets a mere 6 hp more.
toyota has already tweaked the LF-A v10 for 20 mph more; lotus will not be hungering for yet more power.

Oh dear. Haven't we proven time and time again that Colin Chapman...ehem...beg paadon...SIR Colin Chapman had the correct formula for entertaining vehicles? Keep them as light as possible and use as fuel efficient an engine as possible to extend the experience. A Lotus with a V10 engine? Doomed to failure.
