Jaguar's Big Cat To Go On Patrol With Police Fleets

Jaguar's Big Cat To Go On Patrol With Police Fleets
Jaguar UK has launched a high performance Police pursuit vehicle based on its award-winning XF Diesel S model. The first ever Police-spec XF is currently being evaluated by Police forces across the country.

Geoff Cousins, UK Managing Director for Jaguar Cars, said: "Police forces are looking for vehicles that represent value for money, have good environmental credentials and deliver the power and performance required of a pursuit vehicle."

The Jaguar XF beats other contenders in this market with a fuel economy figure of 42mpg, class-leading residual values and an excellent CO2 rating of 179 g/km.

"The Police Officers driving pursuit vehicles demand a very high level of performance and handling, as well as safety and comfort."

The Police specification Jaguar features the 275PS 3.0-litre Diesel S engine with its unique, parallel sequential turbocharger system. Delivering high torque throughout the entire rev range, improved throttle response and low CO2 emissions, the twin-turbochargers work sequentially to deliver unrivalled response and best-in-class torque that means the XF packs a huge punch at all engine speeds.

"We hope that with this amount of torque on tap – and a 0-60mph time of 5.9 seconds, we will meet and exceed the exacting standards of any Police Officer driving this car."

The XF has picked up more than 20 international awards since launch, most recently 'Britain's Best Car' in the Auto Express Driver Power survey for 2009, 'Best Executive Car' at the What Diesel Magazine awards 2009 and the award for 'Best Executive Car' at the 2009 Fleet World Honours.

In the UK, retail pricing of the XF range starts at £32,900 for the 3.0-litre petrol. The 3.0-litre diesel model is available from £33,900 while the 3.0-litre Diesel S starts at £36,900.

I think the fact that it's a Jaguar made the decision for them.

Not at all, the fact that its better than a BMW 335d, Audi & Mercedes is more to the point, this Jag is faster than a Porsche Boxster etc!!!

You know the 335d and the 535d are both faster than the XF 3.0D S

The time jaguar lists is 0-60mph, BMW lists 0-62mph and i promise you if you look up the 335d and 535d 0-60 times it would best the XF times.

This quote from AUTOCAR, a UK based Magazine.

"Jaguar claims that the XF 3.0D S weighs 1820kg (up from 1771kg for the 2.7), so with some options it is a near two-tonne car. That’s a power-to-weight ratio of 149bhp per tonne, short of the 535d’s 163bhp per tonne.
BMW claims the 535d can hit 62mph in 6.4sec. Jaguar claims the less powerful, heavier XF 3.0D S will reach 60 in 5.9sec. Sound reasonable? No, nor to me, especially given that we couldn’t coax a 2.7D to 60mph any quicker than 8.4sec when the Jaguar claim was 7.7sec."

And i can find many other publications who are a tad skeptical of Jaguars' claims for the XF D S to say the least.

If you are a real car enthusiast try doing some simple deductive reasoning before swallowing Jaguar Press B.S. Hook Line & Sinker.

Thats awesome! Nice looking mod. Folks in the UK got it going on. Also Bet they also serve you up a "cup of tea and biscuits" before they slap the cuffs on you.

My force runs 530D and 330D tourers. By the time you put a few signs and cones in the boot the figures are down anyway. I rate cars on how well they go round corners and how they stop as well as they go. It would be fair to say they all go well. In the current climate i would be happy to run British cars
