Ariel reveals new details of the new Atom V8 engine! Bugatti Veyron performances expected!
Ariel released today the first photo and details of the new Atom V8 engine, capable to generate 500 hp, which means that the car will have a power-to-weight ratio of 1000bp per tone, just like the Bugatti Veyron.
This new engine will be connected to a Sadev six-speed sequential gearbox operated through a manual shift and it will help the vehicle sprint from 0 to 96 km/h (60 mph) in just 2.5 seconds while the 160 km/h (100 mph) limit will be broken in less than six seconds. “Our aim is to build the ultimate road legal track day car,” said Simon Saunders, director of Ariel. “Our motto has always been, ‘go fast, have fun’ and the Atom V8 is certainly going to do that.” The new Atom 500 will be built in a very limited of just 25 units! If you want one you’d better hurry up because almost half of the vehicles are already sold!

The Veyron is about 530 hp/tonne the 500hp atom would be almost double it's power to weight ratio.

I thought the Atom out now was somewhere in the 600 hp/tonne range?

Of course, its an open wheel, open cockpit car!!! I'll be surprise if it doesn't accelerate as fast, if not faster than the Veyron. It won't top the Veyron's top speed though...

So it will out accelerate the Veyron up to about 70mph, from there Aerodynamics and downforce will become important and quite frankly i dont think i want to be doing 100+ mph in an open everything kart with no crumple zones i can detect, even on a track.

What a bullshit article. "Details"??? What details? No word on engine size, valvetrain arrangement, ignition system, injection system, aspiration, lubrication...so on, so forth. And look at that transaxle...looks like it's chain driven to the differential. Note worthy? I would think so.
