Too Hot Too Handle? LF-A Protoype Suffers Engine Fire At Nurburgring 24 Hour Race
Check out Lexus' hot LF-A prototype as things get just a bit too hot to handle at Nurburgring 24 Hour Race last weekend.

At some point in the grueling race the LF-A experienced a fire in the engine compartment which temporarily sidelined the contender at some point.  According to the final results the LF-A did complete the race albeit in 87th place.

Some days you just can't win for losing

Lets hope the street versions of this long awaited halo car don't suffer similar issues.

Jeeze, this thing is almost as much of a death trap as a r8... to bad this is a race version, where the r8 fires weren't.

The R8 fires was during testing, and if Im not mistaken, this race version has the exact same engine as the production model.

I hope this sort this one out, because this is not a good thing for their reputation.

Didn't some of the production versions catch on fire to? To me that is extra fail, since they knew it was a problem.

Talk about the longest development of a (possible) production car in history.

Are you sure it's an engine fire? Becouse as I remember Lexus LF-A isn't rear or mid-engined car but has the engine at the front of the car. And the fire comes from the rear of the car. This looks more like rear bumper fire or some other flammable parts at the rear, maybe exhaust pipe had overheated or something like this, and plastic parts had caught fire.

Probably a transmission problem as it's located in the rear.

I heard it was an alternator.

And in other breaking news, the GT-R is rumored to have clocked a 7:38 secs around the Nurburgring (in the hands of Horst). There goes Porsche's credibility, along with the other haters, down the toilet.

Just to refresh your memory, Porsche claimed that the GT-R could not achieve a time faster than 7:52. I can hear the excuses already....

Porsche's are still great cars regardless, great feeds of engineering. The GT-R is awesome too but a Nissan and a Porsche cater to different buyers, it's only the enthusiasts that cross shop a Porsche and the GT-R because having both those cars in your garage demands respect!. There are differences between haters and car enthusiasts. A GT-R fan can easily appreciate Porsche and vice versa. Otherwise you're not a true car fan. That's the way I see it. Just because the Porsche is "slower" than a GT-R doesn't mean it's not a very fast car. Majority of the cars out on the road barely surpass even 200 horsepower!

This car was in a crash earlier in the race. A porsche crashed into it. The car spent 5 hours in the garage getting fixed, but the damage was serious, so they did not fix everything. Most likely this fire was related to the earlier crash.

LMAO!
Toyota should stick to what they're good at ... producing reliable appliances on wheels.
All the successful models from Toyota are cures for insomnia.

I'm sure the engineers of Toyota will fix this issue, whatever it may be. It just doesn't look good for the company who excels in reliability. Like i've said about other companies, no car or brand is immune to faulty products. It's part of life.

Far as I can see the Audi r8 lead outright for 17 hours, and finished 2nd overall behind a 911 GT2. Careful saying that the Krauts don't know how to build race cars...

Where was the GTR? Certainly not vying for the lead.
