0-60 in 5.0 to 5.2, then I would think about it. I like the looks, but it needs more umph.

You guys sound like you shop for cars based solely on 0-60 times.

If you're looking for 0-60 times, FWD is the worst option you could possibly choose. But, if you're looking for a car that's suited for all seasons and will still give you your kicks, a car like this makes sense.

I'd gladly take one of these over a GTI, R32, MS3(MPS), or a Civic SI.

Yes, it is frustrating that automakers don't care about high performance market in this country in some level. I know this example is not that good (even though its a very aggressive looking car, the performance number are kind of lame, and I dislike also VWs) but look at the ford focus RS. its a great machine so far, but NO RS in the States. Why? it is even a ford for god sake. No wonder American auto makers are in such a bad shape. look at the example of some Japanese automaker. they take more risks bringing the Subaru sti Mitsubishi evolution (although no fq 400) the Nissan gtr. I wish American automakers will have more guts to lunch risky experiments to the market. It is just funny how gm could have got a very sure market for the hybrids or even the full electric with the EV1, on top of Toyota and Honda. but no! lets make big pickup trucks and cars that are an antique in drive train, engine and chassis development. I hope car manufacturer are listening because although me and most of the people that have replay to this writeup doesn't like VW's I bet there is a bunch of VW fans wanting this car. LET US CHOSE WHAT CARS WE WANT! DON'T CHOSE FOR US!

The Cooper Works Mini does 0-60 in 6.2 seconds with 208hp. Das Moron! Never been a fan of VW's little hatch, no matter what form it is molded into.

What I really miss is the Jetta of old with some more squared headlamps and a competitor against the Civic and other small cars. It turned into a bland mini-Passat, the GLI is boring and they could really have done a lot with the last generation. Like giving it the power from the R32 or something fun.

The regular GTI with 200 hp does the 0-60 in 6.5 seconds (6 for the DSG according to Car and driver/Motor Trend etc) so I think it must be 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds, (100kph, the Euro equivalent) which would equate to an 'American' 0-60 under 6 seconds.

Great car no doubt (as it is based on the GTI) but not a fan of the looks.

This "Thing" looks like Volvo C30 will not sell in US market.

That sounds possible elduderion. Typical European does it based on the Kph which when converted correctly works to be about 62mph. The question begs though, does 60-62mph take more than .5 seconds to attain?

OK..before everyone gets their nose out of joint with 0-60 times. There is one major factor everyone is overlooking. In what GEAR does it hit 60 in. Remember Europe isn't so infatuated in 0-60 and 1/4 mile times as we Americans are. They build cars that handle around tracks in proper gearing. They dont make tall gears just to hit a mythical # made up by someone years ago.

My car dosen't hit 60 until 3rd gear. Thats 2 shifts compared to most 'fast cars' 1 shift or no shifts to 60. Yet the reality is, is that my car does phonominally at track and autocross events because its geared to do just that. In auto x I can ride high in my powerband of 2nd gear, all day long vs lets say a vette which will be struggling to decide between 1st and 2nd gear.

I would just like to see the data as to which gear this VW is in before I start jumping down the manufacturers throat. Especially in a FWD car with 265 HP.

My .02

Personally, I don't get the 'hype' over this effort, as it's appears to be little more than a terribly over-priced VW GTI wrapped in a 'slightly' modernized iteration of Honda's design for the 1992-1996 Civic Hatchback... Oh Well - To Each Their Own!
