Democratic Rep. Charges Taxpayers For A Lexus. But At Least It Was A Hybrid!

Democratic Rep. Charges Taxpayers For A Lexus. But At Least It Was A Hybrid!
Florida Rep. Alcee Hastings spent $24,730 in taxpayer money last year to lease a 2008 luxury Lexus hybrid sedan. Ohio Rep. Michael Turner expensed a $1,435 digital camera. Eni Faleomavaega, the House delegate from American Samoa, bought two 46-inch Sony TVs.

U.S. politicians, unlike their counterparts in Great Britain, can't bill taxpayers for personal living expenses. The U.S. Treasury gives them an allowance to cover "official and representational expenses," according to congressional rules, and the lawmakers enjoy a fair amount of discretion in how they use the funds.

The Spies want to know when there will be REAL change in Washington.

The ENTIRE system is broke and it needs to be totally changed.

And BOTH the Democrats AND Republicans are to blame.

And the reason we're in this mess.

System IS broken, agreed 001. I think I will go pick up an IS-F and charge it to HASTINGS' PERSONAL account. Only fair. I guess he really wanted to show how green-team friendly he is by showing us commonfolk how to do it....with our own money of course, not his. This dope isn't even smart enough to know that the GS450h is a 'performance based hybrid', and not made to sip fuel like a Prius, Insight, Escape, Fusion, etc. As long as it had the hybrid badge it's all good for his constituents out there, right??? I think it would not bunch me up so much if he went with a less expensive model like a Fusion Hybrid that got way better mileage, if that is what he was looking for. (might not been available at that time). But we all know politicians aren't about the people, they are about "PERSON", aka themselves....

/end rant.

Then why not a Escape or Fusion? Did it have to be a Lexus?

"Then why not a Escape or Fusion? Did it have to be a Lexus?"

---Agreed again, that's what I'm sayin' 001! At least make it a more "green" car like the Escape for Fusion if Hastings is going to rip the people off. Then again, when it's not from his own pocket, in his mind he's thinking "who cares?!"....us Autospies do, that's who. If I wanted any one of those hybrids, I would buy/lease a GS450h as well (love it, great car in my mind), but not on the people's dime...that's just arrogance at that point.

Change, change, yes the type out of your pocket! Agent 001 and 1UAW, it is amazing to to see the two hit the same stride with this topic. Greed and recklessness abandon when it comes to using our money, and they never have to worry about it because they don't work for it! It is taken!

Just some background on how corrupt Alcee Hastings is:
Before he became a member of Congress, he was a federal judge who was impeached by the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives in 1988 and then convicted by the Senate in 1989. He was removed from his position for corruption and perjury.

Is anyone surprised he is scamming taxpayers now?

Govt money should not be spent on anything but hotel rooms and only when away on govt bussines.Do they not get enough money from kick backs and a nice salary.

Since there is no such a thing as a 2008 Lexus Hybrid Sedan (only the RX SUV hybrid), I wonder what she leased. There is no credibility there.
