How Would You Pitch GM And Rebuild Their Reputation?

How Would You Pitch GM And Rebuild Their Reputation?
With General Motors Corp. following Chrysler onto the rust heap of tarnished brands, there are plenty of shoulda-coulda-wouldas to be found. The job of marketing isn't to dwell on past failures but rather to help a company find its way forward.

So instead of Monday-morning quarterbacking, we reached out to you and asking you if you  took on the automaker as a client and how you would  pitch the company.

What sort of strategy would you pitch?

Do you tell GM to shed brands?

What's the corporate tagline for GM?

How would you advise the company in terms of product development?

GM is already building some of the best cars on the road (e.g. Caddy CTS, Corvette, Malibu, some of the Buick models, etc). Their quality is as good as most impots.
The fact that they still suffer from a 10 - 20 year old reputation of poor quality from the casrs they built during that period.
GM's major challenge is - making money off the cars they build.

GM needs to tell their dealers to stop treating everyone who walks onto their lot as a potential victim. The blatant manipulation of customers and rape to the maximum extent possible by salesmen, sales managers and finance people will need to stop before I ever deal with GM again. I heard a GM sales person in the airport bragging to his traveling companions about the way they kept customers waiting for the Finance guy for hours in an attempt to wear them down. Why would anyone deal with these miserable punks? I don't necessarily think the product is atrocious, but, the way they GM trains there staff to treat "customers" surely is.

"What's the corporate tagline for GM?"
Possible GM advertising

"Citizen....do as you are told...Buy American...even if it is MADE IN CHINA"

"Free with every car sold...A Brazilian Vacation...go visit where your job went"

"Thanks for letting us loot the GM pension fund...Signed, The BANKSTERS"

Guys, this is an easy one since what to do with GM hasn't changed for 30 years! Design and build better cars.

To be more specific:

1. Keep Saturn.
2. Fix Saturn's design and quality to be better than Honda/Toyota and price the vehicles competitively.

That's it! If done properly, GM will be world-class in vehicles that sell 100,000+ units per year and they will have all of the money that they need to subsidize the Volt to sell for $22,000 and drive Prius sales to zero.

Then show the Vette in a burnout with some awesome music....maybe Shook me all night long?...etc
