Mini asks drivers not to drive on June 5
So tomorrow is World Environment Day 2009 (no really, it actually exists - check out the website) and to get its already ‘environmentally conscious’ consumers to do their part, Mini is asking its owners not to drive their Coopers tomorrow.

In a campaign called ‘Let’s Not Motor Day,’ Mini is asking its owners to “buckle down, instead of up.”

“Let’s have a day when we organize a walk pool,” says Mini. “When we give the highway some breathing room. And get where we’re going with our own power instead of horsepower. For just one day, let’s come together, both Mini owners and enthusiasts, to put our cars in park and hide our keys.”

Yes… that sounds fine and dandy and all, but as enthusiasts on...

Dumbest idea ever. I shall be driving to work tomorrow, just like always.

(I am not a Mini driver.) I am sure I will see numerous Mini's on the road.

I feel you man. They should at least make it a Saturday or Sunday so that those of us that must drive to work can consider it.

"Let's have a day when we all think about Minis. Maybe that will help our sales."

I'll be going to rent a big 1980's Chevy Suburban and driving it by all the little rallies and gatherings for global warming, hope, pride, and whatever else they feel the necessity to cry about. Morons.

i will rent a gas guzzler just for this day and release all the toxic fumes i can.

"World Environment Day" ? what a joke. i would write a letter to mini saying i'm gonna sell my cooper for such a ridiculous request.

So if I'm a Mini driver, I should drive my Larger SUV to work tomorrow instead of my more fuel efficient Mini. Now that's great for the World Environment. Isn't the point of having a Mini that it is more evironmentally friendly. Shouldn't I drive a Mini instead of a gas guzzler

The point of the mini was that you could be sporty by being small. Up until recently nobody has really attached their average fuel economy numbers (compared to other small cars) to being eco friendly.

First time I'm going to agree with you. On the highway my car gets 30+mpg. My 6 mile each way commute in town nets me ~11mpg in my 6cyl car :( I rode my bike today, just as I do every day. Car driving was fun when I was 16. Now days I only drive for pleasure & emergencies. I ride a bike to work. I could give 2 shits about the environment. If I had a M3 in the garage, I'd probably start driving agian though :)
