Toyota to race until 2012 if the new rules are removed
John Howett, the President of Toyota Motorsport and Vice President of Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) has expressed a dislike for the new budget cap rules that have been proposed for the 2010 F1. This dislike has been pushed as far as threatening to withdraw Toyota’s participation from the F1 championship if the new rules are not removed.

Nine member teams of FOTA filed a block entry for the 2010 season, an act that will put the F1 sport in hot water. To allay the move Toyota has promised to join the sport until 2012 only if the budget cap rule is eliminated. The FIA, however, is not backing out from the implementation of the new rules. No one seems to know how this story will end just yet.

Isn't the entire purpose of F1 racing to debut or showcase brand new automotive technologies that will eventually make their ways to such cars as the S class...and eventually to the cars the rest of us buy?

If thats the case...all the teams should dump as much possible into these vehicles, not restrict them with caps. All that will do will slow down or prevent new technology from hitting the mainstream market in an expidicious manner.

Why should smaller and less important racing squads come into F1 and have a chance? This is F1 not go-kart racing. Mercedes, Audi, Toyota and the rest of the world's biggest teams need this stage to present their best work.

I totally support FOTA that there shouldn't be budget caps in F1. Doing so would mean F1 is not the pinnacle and is like any other series with second grade teams that race or previously raced in lower categories like F3, GP2, A1...etc.
but it seems like the big powers of F1, most probably will have there say and there won't be many compromises.

Max Mosley: "I say to them: If you want to draw up your own rules, then you can organise your own championship. But we have the Formula 1 championship. We draw up the rules for that. We have been doing that for 60 years and we will continue doing so."

That really should be the end of the story. The teams should organize their own racing series, and get rid of the whole debacle that F1 has become. They can make it more exciting, less restrictive, and reinvent the pinnacle of automotive racing without all the pretentious garbage like Ecclestone and Mosley attached to F1.

I agree with everything said here. FIA needs to be taught a lesson. They have ruined WRC, they are ruining F1. I think the motorsports companies of the world need to unite against Max Mosely and his little bitch Bernie Ecclestone and organise series' independent of these fools. Get rid of Speedchannel coverage of the events (they're biased towards bullshit NASCAR anyway) and then we'll see some real racing.
