Volkswagen BlueSport Roadster Ready For Production, Price To Start At Around $30K
Last we heard anything about the Volkswagen BlueSport Roadster’s production plans, it was reported that the big bosses at V-dub are reconsidering the model due to the global economic crisis as they calculate “the viability of the niche car.”
When it was unveiled at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show in January, insiders at Volkswagen told reporters that the model would come to the market in 2012.
Now, according to AutoWeek, Volkswagen’s BlueSport Roadster is ready to make the leap from concept to production. Due to the mid-engine platform, Volkswagen says that the production BlueSport could carry a starting price-tag of about $30,000 when it hits showrooms.
By now you’re probably very excited to see this concept become a reality - but there is some more good news to keep you entertained.
Right now there is only one BlueSport Roadster in existence and it carries a 180-hp 2.0 TDI 4-cylinder common-rail diesel. Mated to a 6-speed DSG, the BlueSport Roadster averages a whopping 55 mpg.

Starting at $30,000??? I don't know about this. How much does the Miata start at? The Miata is the best selling roadster in the world, and part of this is due to it's affordability. Maybe VW should rethink this over.

Ah, the Miata will have nothing on this model when comparing tech. First, it will be a niche car. Saturn and Pontiac did very well against the Miata, and at the prices those cars were sold at (sometimes, the Saturn SKY Turbo sold at 35K and higher) VW will be able to justify the price, just like how they are about to justify the price of all their more pricier offerings.

Comparing apples to apples you could go back and forth forever with the miata verses vw talk, but the case closer even though they compare well on all other levels is 55+ miles a gallon... Big advantage VW!! Case closed.

I think all this arguing back and forth is from the miata owners trying to justify why their car is "better" than this new v-dub. Good luck trying to talk yourself into that, let us all know how that works out for you. "ha ha ha"
