Volkswagen names its upcoming pick-up: Amarok
The Volkswagen Amarok, which was first shown in concept form in 2008, is the name of the new pick-up which the German manufacturer will release next year. The name Amarok means wolf in the Eskimo dialect. With its toughness, endurance and superiority, it intends to be the leader in the wilderness.

In South America the designation comes with a different meaning: he loves stones. The Amarok will be equipped with four-wheel-drive and double cab at release, with a single cab version released on the same year but later. The pick-up will be powered by a line of common rail turbo diesel units. No pricing has yet been made available.

I like it. I think that the diesel engines will provide great fuel economy in a segment that is not known for it.

It's a Honda Ridgeline witha VW grille. A VW truck, if it's anything like the one they had out years ago that was so tiny and worthless, ok well this one is bigger. But seriously, the competition is the Ridgeline, not the F-series or Ram or Silverado. And from what I know VW is typically a lot more expensive than Honda in pricing.

Cool, but is VW known for pickups?. If they integrate the 4X4 technology in this I see it being a pretty decent off-roader.

Don't laugh at this. Most Japanese auto makers have a similar pick configuration like this being sold throughout the rest of the world. Toyota Hilux, Nissan Frontier/Navarra, Mazda BT-50, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-max, Mitsubishi Strada. If this configuration (double cab 4 doors, short bed) is a hit, expect the Japanese brands to flood the US market in just a short time.

uaw-lax,

Ridgeline is not a true pick up. More like a car with an open back. True pick-ups must have body on frame and true rear wheel drive as in with a real rear axle or couplked with a front axle in the case of 4wd. It could have a following in the new economy as most families might want to have a combination of real SUV and real Pick-up. Not crossovers or cars masquerading as SUVs.

American car makers go under due to concentrating too much on trucks, now the Euros are gonna do the same thing. lol Even Toyota is hurting because of its failed truck venture.
