1.5 millionth Corvette rolls off the production line

The 1.5 millionth Corvette rolled off the production line in GM’s Bowling Green, Kentucky facility last May 28, in the thick of talks about bankruptcies and the future of the General Motors. The 1 millionth Corvette, a white C4 top-down with a red themed interior, was celebrate way back in 1992.

It was during the 1952 Motorama that the first elegant fiber-glass bodied Corvette roadster concept came out, which saw production the following year. There were limited 300 copies of the model made during the initial production year. By 1955 a V8 powerplant was added to enhance further the ride and handling of the car, which eventually led to its becoming a sports car in its own way. By ’69 the Corvette saw 250,000 models built, and by 1977 the 500,000th car was reached at the St. Louis, Missouri facility. By 1983 the 750,000th, which was built car was built on October 26 that year, became a brand new 1984 model. From the elegant 150hp traveler, it transformed into a 638hp Nurburgring competitor in the ZR-1 configuration.
