Pontiac G8 may be here to stay

The Pontiac brand may be dead in the water but some enthusiasts are clamoring for at least one of the brand’s cars to be rebadged and sold under another GM brand - the Australian-built Pontiac G8.

Designed and constructed by GM's Holden subsidiary Down Under, the G8 has been a better than average seller thanks to its competitive pricing and sporty nature, but does the rear-wheel-drive sedan have a future at GM?

Heck no... That name has been drug through the Mud too many times and is currently a FWD Fleet car. Let it stay there. I think it's time to bring back a legendary Chevy Muscle Car name: Chevelle !!

Why would anyone think this is a good idea? GM can't manage the brands it has now and now that it is selling off some and closing one down WHY would they want to bring another one in? Especially one with NO equity in the US market. If GM could manage a 4th car brand it should be Pontiac. While the 90s led them astray the other years the brand was around certainly made up for it.

But come on what would be the point?

GM doesn't manage Holden as much as you might think. They run their own production, importing, marketing, and sales channels. In addition they own Daewoo and sell cars to GM Arabia, GM Europe, and GM NA. It isn't that they are a cog in the wheel as much as some people think. They used to be more independent but still have quite a bit of autonomy.

And then a smaller model like Aveo under the G8 and you're done. Small Medium and Large. Keep it simple.
