The TomTom solution combines two new TomTom products to provide users with state of the art in-car navigation on their iPhone 3G:

- The TomTom navigation application for iPhone; an Apple version of TomTom's award-winning turn-by-turn navigation software, including IQ Routes and latest maps from Tele Atlas;

- The TomTom car kit for iPhone; a specially developed car kit for secure docking, enhanced GPS performance, clear voice instructions, hands-free calling and in-car charging.

I had Tom Tom software a few years ago that ran on my PALM. IT was awesome and more accurate with street names and info than the 2500.00 one that came with my car. I loved being able to use it while in larger cities like NY and DC when I was traveling in the city by foot. When I went on vacation I would use it the rental car and already have destination preprogramed so that when I got there I just hit a few buttons and was on my way. If they can figure out how allow us to program a trip on our home computer then download it to the IPHONE like the new MB system is then this thing will be BANK! I have an Iphone and will be one of the first to download the Tom Tom Application.

With something like this, does it have to keep a mobile internet connection the entire time? I have figured that by 2015, cheap in-car navigation systems using a monthly service (mobile phone/internet) would provided more accurate and current updated maps. With this and BMW being able to send google maps to the car, we're getting close.
