2010 Lexus HS 250h gets an EPA-estimated 35 mpg
Toyota is hoping to sell about 25,000 units of its all-new 2010 Lexus HS 250h in the first 12 months of the cars sale, said Mark Templin, group vice president of the Lexus Division for Toyota North America. Lexus’ first dedicated hybrid model is scheduled to go on sale in the U.S. later this summer and will be the luxury-brands first hybrid-only model. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.

“More than 60 percent of entry luxury sedan buyers said they would consider hybrids, and this is a segment nobody’s in right now,” Templin told Reuters.

Power for the 2010 Lexus HS 250h comes from Lexus’ first 4-cylinder 2.4L Atkinson engine and the Lexus Hybrid Drive System. The drivertrain, mated to a CVT transmission, produces a total of 187-hp. That allows the HS 250h to go from 0 to 60 mph...

Yes, only if the car was compelling...I don't see that here.

Why would anyone pay $35 grand for this when the 55mpg Prius III starts at $21 grand, 14 thousand dollars less?

Because of the L on the grill

It doesn't even look any nicer or more expensive than a Prius...except for the L

Lexus doesn't seem to get it. The LS and GS hybrid was positioned for what purpose? When Cadillac comes out with the Converj, then that will be a true luxury hybrid posting more than 35 mpg. 35 mpg that is sad. Chevy Malibu faux hybrid did close to that. Again, what purpose is this car for?

| The LS and GS hybrid was positioned for what purpose?

LS hybrid - to offer a hybrid that is quieter than Rolls Royce Phantom
GS hybrid - to offer the first purely oriented performance hybrid car

| 35 mpg that is sad. Chevy Malibu faux hybrid did close to that.

Absolutely everything hybrid haters like you, probably paid by German carmakers that are trying to sell inefficient diesels in the USA, say is a LIE.

I mean EVERYTHING.

Lexus HS250h gets EPA COMBINED 35 mpg. Chevrolet Malibu mild hybrid got EPA COMBINED 27-29 mpg [1][2], depending on the make.

| Again, what purpose is this car for?

To prove that you lie against hybrids every little time.

Not to mention they could always go for the A4 2.0 TDI Quattro S-Line : 170hp, 0-62 8.3, 140mph top and 40 US MPG.
Or the BMW 320d with similar stats.
Or the C220 CDI or C250 CDI
Or..............

Oh Sod it, those suckers will buy anything with an L badge on it.

car is easily going to make 40+ mpg.

my GS350 has an EPA avg of 22, yet I am avg about 29mpg thru city/hwgy use.

bottom line, only dedicated hybrid luxury vehicle in production rite now...tree hugger's will buy them.

you can almost guarantee that most of hollywood will be sporting the HS around Rodeo's shopping strip.

Am I the only one that thinks this car is horrifically ugly? It's like polishing a turd. The craziest thing is that no matter how ugly of a car it might be, Lexus will be able to sell it. This twisted ability seems to elude BMW and Mercedes.

I'm bearish on this car. In short history of hybrid sells there has only been one success story; the Prius. It looks different appealling to its buyers and is suppose to say, "responsable and understated". This is just a leather lined Euro-Toyota. Giving credit to Lexus the sells numbers aren't that big. I just don't get this car.

Just a bad car from Lexus. A Prius with a different outer shell that's about it. Again nothing special. Only two commendable cars from Lexus is the LS, GS and maybe the extremely riced out IS-F. The ES is just a luxo-camry that doesn't even look as luxurious as the Camry offered in Asia (GO CHECK).
