GM:Chevy Cruze Will Give Small-Car Buyers a Better Package Over Asian Rivals
During a live chat session last week on the GM FastLane blog, CEO Fritz Henderson answered questions from the media, analysts and customers. However, he was unable to answer every question due to time constraints - one that had to deal with GM’s most significant small car, the Chevrolet Cruze.
To make sure that Fritz provided his input on the Cruze, FastLane just posted a follow-up from the big boss at GM. Several questions were asked about GM’s small-car strategy, which has recently been making headlines.
“If you haven’t heard, next year we’ll roll out an all-new compact that will surprise most customers with its terrific fuel efficiency (approaching 40 mpg highway), appealing interior design and spacious five-passenger cabin,” said Fritz.

? What are you talking about? Maybe it looks familiar, but not dated. In the compact segment, the Fiesta (a smaller car) and Mazda 3 has a fresher look but this car has a solid look for the segment.

Is it me, or I'm I seeing more positive response to GM and the new product line?

Take out your conversion calculators, for the most part, it will be priced right in the sub-compact segment.
It seemed like the price for the Cruze before the BR will now be revised (if GM is smart about it)

The Chevy Cruze wlll hit Europe an entire year before going on sale in the US. Yesterday, GM announced UK pricing on the car. It'll start at a reasonable £11,545 ($15,770).

The range will kick off with the 1.6 S, which enjoys a comprehensive list of standard equipment despite its value price tag. As well as remote central locking, the model features follow-me-home lighting, a feature normally reserved for premium cars, a quality CD-radio system, electric front windows, a fully-adjustable driver's seat and steering wheel, six airbags, ESC, upmarket soft-touch cabin materials, and premium blue-backlit dashboard dials. The 1.6S A/C model, at £11,995, also adds air conditioning.

The LS model, expected to be the best-seller in the range, starts at only £12,595 for the 1.6 manual variant and includes air conditioning as standard, plus other upmarket features such as 16-inch alloy wheels, a chrome edged radiator grille, front fog lights and reverse parking sensors.

It's still a Daewoo so... it's still Asian no matter what. GM needs to stop with the captive imports.

I like this car, Chevrolet worked hard on this one. I just hate the taillights, they scream 7 Series and Honda Civic.

Not bad looking at all. Let's hope it has the quality and the dynamics to compete.

I am yet to read a review of this car but considering its European pricing it is a very good value. You simply get a lot of a car for not that much cash.

Gasoline engines are available with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. If they made it right in an ambitious way, it can technically easily compete with the double clutch ones. Cruze also comes with promisingly strong diesel engines, although only a stick version is possible in this case. Exterior and interior styling is very appealing with Civic-alike rear end being not that much of a problem.

The Cruze is not a captive import. It will be built at the Lordstown, Ohio plant. As is the case with many companies, a car has to be designed somewhere, engineered somewhere, tested somewhere, built somewhere, and ultimately sold everywhere. For far too long American manufacturers have had the United States as the sole location for all these parameters. The result? Chronic failure. GM embarking on a strategy of pooling the best from around the world and building them for the world is a sure winner. Toyota does it. Honda does it. Shit, even Mercedes and BMW are doing it now. Stop bitching and give thanks that at least they are doing something to prevent job loss around the world.

— HyundaiSmoke:

| That cruze better be a whale of a car, becuase the only
| people i that would have to worry about anything is Toyota
| and we know why

Yeah, especially with their new 2010 Prius III, taking the top in Japan and generating waiting lists in the States they'll have to worry a lot. Well, it only gets real life COMBINED 50 mpg, looks great, is good to drive, has a long wheelbase thus large interior, a standard fastest automatic gearbox in the world, a large boot, lots of advanced technology options and a possible plug-in extension.

How can Toyota compete??

Patriotic leanings is the reason some will not buy a Prius? Maybe, but again a number of people don't like hybrids, period. Plus, hybrids today says you have to fit in this box and this style and I'm telling you, until the hybrid concept changes, most will continue to bite the bullet and purchase petrol powered vehicles like the Cruze and the other 98% of vehicles purchased that isn't hybrid. Personally, I hate to have to be told what I can drive, or where I can put my money. if I want a Camaro SS, cool. A Fiesta, fine. A Audi A8L, then so be it. This is a free market and I hope it stays that way.

The Chevy Cruze has style, more features at each price point than the competition, industry leading fit and finish, industry leading mileage, great price point in its segment and will be fun to drive, while looking good. Another winner for GM to add to their recent successes, the Aura, the Malibu, the CTS, the Enclave, the Acadia, etc.

Don't forget to get on a Chevy lot in the next week or so to see the Rav-4 and CR-V beater, the 2010 Chevy Equinox--also with industry leading fit and finish and mileage.

I donot want to bash GM, but lets take a look at reality, Nissan is to introduce turbo charge engines call VCR turbo, VW already has, and also Chysler to introduce some, and who so ever to come.So the competetion is going to be tough for GM in the US market. In Europe there is to be a release of a turbo charge renualt, and of course remember I said VW has already have turbo charge cars and there are other makers.

Socialism and helping spread the wealth leads to oppression of free expression and big brother facism like what is happening in Iran. No thanks, I'll keep my freedom and work out the problems from within thank you.
