Has Buick Suddenly Become The Coolest Brand In GM's Stable?

The Buick division of General Motors — one of the four nameplates that are surviving the paring of the bankrupt automaker’s offerings — is gearing up for a major brand reintroduction.

A campaign to promote the Buick brand and its new models is scheduled to start on Sunday with television commercials. There is a sneak peak now, on the Buick Web site (buick.com), and print advertisements are starting to show up in July issues of magazines.

The campaign, by Leo Burnett in Chicago, part of the Publicis Groupe, carries the theme “Take a look at me now.” The idea is reinforced by headlines that proclaim, “Everything you thought about Buick just went boom.”

Cooler than 2 years ago? Perhaps? But will always be the aspiration of the Sun City set. Maybe Walgreens and CVS should sell them.

The old saying (old - that's ironic)..........

"You can sell a young man's car to an old man, but you can't sell an old man's car to a young man."

GM needs to STOP BUILDING OLD MAN'S CARS. Old people will still buy them if they are made for YOUNG PEOPLE.

I'm still waiting to see how they position the brand. I'm guessing they will be like Lexus (comfort oriented, reliable luxury) at Acura prices and let Cadillac be a sportier luxury European competitor (which will help Cadillac in Europe as well).

Right....Buick in 2009 is much "cooler" than Buick was a years ago. Buick can only be considered "cool" when it's compared to itself in some way.

When compared to Lexus maybe. Just think, the average age of a Lexus buyer can't be that much different than Buick. Have you seen 20 or 30 year olds driving the ES, Lexus most prevalent model? The LS, if it wasn't an executive vehicle, would be Sun Cities poster car. What brings Lexus age numbers down would be the IS.

I owned an ES as a secondary car.

That is a point I didn't think about. Buick might be the brand of the gray set, but not of bad quality like the old GM and Toyota. Buick need to redesign the Enclave and get a Lucerne replacement asap. a smaller CUV that is a clone of the new Enclave would help. That model should be priced under Caddy's SRX.

I'd love to think that the Solstice/Sky Kappa platform would be shared with Buick, and survive, but the Delaware plant is scheduled for closure.

Buick is #1 way to impress women 79-99 years old.

Hehehe, they call it the Buick Century, because that's how old you need to be to drive one.

Buick Ranks Highest in Vehicle Dependability - Continues to Improve Overall Rankings in annual J.D. Power and Associates Study

Buick has been recognized for building the most dependable vehicles in the automotive industry, according to an annual J.D. Power and Associates study released today.

One of the great benefits of raw capitalism is that consumers get to vote on product quality every day. This means that companies compete with each other to build and service products that win with customers. In the automobile industry, the gold standard for measuring who's up and who's down is the JD Power Vehicle Dependability Survey. And this year, for the first time, Tata Motors' (TTM) Jaguar and General Motors (GM) Buick knocked Toyota Motor Corp.'s (TM) Lexus out of the top spot.

For me, the most amazing thing about this report is that Jaguar has finally climbed out of the cellar of quality problems for which is was known for decades. Under Ford Motor (F), Jaguar stayed far from the top but India's Tata bought Jaguar in 2007 and its quality improvements have been dramatic. Jaguar's overall rise was due to "fewer reported problems with vehicle exterior, sound system and the overall driving experience," according to AP. But Jaguar is small fry in the US, selling 14,000 vehicles here in 2008, while Buick sold 128,000.

Check out the list. Scion is close to bottom.

@ inspirion:

When I said "source this," I was referring to HyundaiSmoke's imaginary list.

But, thank you for the link :)

Agent00R, I didn't mean you actually. I thought HyundaiSmoke didn't add the complete list, but look lower and he reference a different list all together.

what is your list from HyundaiSmoke? Scion doesn't do well in any regards. It seems like a random list of names.

They WOULD build such a car if they thought people would pay the $150,000 it would take to build one.
