Alfa Romeo 169 luxury flagship will be based on Chrysler 300 platform
The long-awaited return of Fiat and Alfa Romeo is due to get underway soon following the signing of the new alliance with Chrysler, and word of the first cars to be brought in is finally emerging.

While most of the Italian cars will be skewed towards the smaller end of town, one of the most anticipated, the Alfa 169 (the replacement for the aging 166), will be a large, luxurious, RWD saloon.

God, they really need to stop using that platform already.

Time to move on to better things.

Like?

The W210 platform is still solidly engineered and cost-effective to produce. It has a good record. Mercedes is being wise in selling/licensing etc. this platform to other brands.

@ wimmer:

The problem is that the W210 was produced from '95 into the early 2000's. This means the platform was probably conceived in the early 90s.

Essentially, my biggest fear is that the Alfa will be transformed into a big lug like the Dodge Challenger.

Agent00R - Bigger is better I always say. Chrysler over the years has always been beaten up over their "big cars" IT NEVER HURT THEIR PERFORMANCE BY ANY MEASURE. Chrysler pioneered many of the technologies used in modern automobiles to this day. Get over yourself and find another topic.

The car pictured looks like something from the mid-nineties.

problem is, the Alfa grill is classic, but it does not scale up well from the traditional sports cars and small sedans alfa's reknown for.

tradition is one thing, but being HIDE BOUND to it can result in ugly cars.

I have owned an Alfa 166 for the last three years, and have been happy to wait for the rear drive 169. It was rumoured to be coming on a Maserati platform - but now its going to be a reskinned Chrysler 300 (of which there are a large number here in New Zealand), on old benz bits ! .. I sincerely hope the reports are wrong.
.. Guess I might be trading the 166 on a Jaguar XF instead !!
