Stud Or Dud? BMW's X1 Gets Caught In The Nude!

Our spy photographer just sent us these shots of the BMW X1 prototype nearly nude on the Nürburgring. The last time we saw it, it was dressed up in a lot of camouflage, so feast your eyes on this beauty.

Expected to show up at the Frankfurt show in September, the X1 will have four- and six- cylinder gasoline and diesel engines.

uhh, no.

It looks like a MazdaSpeed3 wagon. Was that what they were aiming for? It doesn't really look like a small SUV as much as a 1-series 5-dr wagon.

Make it stop. PLEASE.

First it was the parade of Bangle Acid Art Projects.

Now it is the truck-ification of what was left of the Ultimate Driving Machin brand.

Urg. It it too much to ask that BMW build a small, light, balanced, highly precise DRIVING MACHINE that makes you glad you spent the money on it. Is it too much to ask for a car that gives you a throll when you feel through the controls how it reacts medically precise to your inputs like BMW's used to?

Dammit! This pissed me off. I want my 1991 3-Series back!

1ners are nice, but still come with "Playstation" driver controls that lack the visceral feel BMW's were known for. It is all the tallish SUV, CUV crap that has really been watering down the brand IMNHO.

Since the US government is going to force the Big 3 to stop making SUV's the europens can step in and make a lot of money on them. Lets just hope they take the money and use it for better car engineering, because we all know there is no engineering in SUV's just install a lift kit and make it boxy I could design SUV's with a box of crayons.

Stud or dud? Doesn't matter. I don't care about this thing because I remember the good ole days when BMW used to make amazing CARS, not just VEHICLES.

What happened? Did some evil sorcerer cast a spell on them to make them believe that they are Toyota?

My BMW 2001 330Ci Convertible was not bolted together very well. Over 7 years and 126,600 miles I had...
6 months I needed a 4 wheel alignment, every 6 months!!!
5 Bent Wheels
4 Bent lower control Arms
3 Bushings that went Kaput
2 rear differential Seals went Kaput
1 A/C hose broke
1 Radiator Neck was leaking and cracked
1 Power Steering pump went Kaput
1 Water Pump went Kaput
1 Kidney Grill Popped out from the flimsy plastic bracket that died
The Passenger power seat module was replaced twice and still never worked right
The trunk mounted 6 disk CD changer was jammed when I went around a corner and never worked right after that and the dealer did not know how to fix it.

FINALLY the last straw was when The B fell off the Rondel and I had an MW instead a BMW!!

If you did bend FIVE wheels, you told us everything about how you drive your car. Why don't you tell us where do you live/drive your car... maybe is not you, maybe the roads are to harsh for the car...

New Jersey they spend more money on our roads than anywhere else in the nation, yet the roads are still hooraying. LOTS of Pot Holes, Lot's of congestion, lot's of stop and jerk traffic, Lots of Trucks. = 5 Bent Rims...I only got 1 in my WRX, not too bad.

Breaking News: BMW continues to produce pointless and ugly SUVs!!

First the 5-series GT and now this????

What the hell is wrong with BMW. This thing will fail just like the X3 is failing compared to the Audi Q5.

BMW is following Mercedes' strategy of creating too many niche models that will only drive their costs through the roof, while stagnating sales (these cars will sell horribly since there will basically be zero buyers and they are ugly) and reducing profitability.

Look at MB with their sales stuck at 1.1 million vehicles for the last 5-7 years. MB's 2009 sales are tanking and they continues to post quarterly losses.

Great strategy to follow BMW!!

The 5-series GT will be a disaster, the X1 will be a disaster, and if the 3-series GT ever becomes a reality it too will be a disaster.

I can't wait to see BMW produce the X 2.5 and X5.5 to slot in between the X1 and X3 and X5 and X6 respectively.

Eh, BMW and MB are entering new niches because a market exists for these niches. These guys have the market research, you don't.

The R class was theoretically always going to be a low volume model because in a way it conflicts with the E class estate 4Matic and M class models. Last I checked the sales of the R class in Europe and elsewhere overall weren't too shabby.

It looks really good. It is perfect for the European market it fits well in the lineup of the 1 series.
