Opel Pulls The Wraps Off of The 2010 Astra Interior

Although we're still a few months away from seeing the 2010 Opel Astra in the flesh at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the automaker has released a bevy of interior images of its new compact hatch following the reveal of the fully redesigned exterior.

The new interior takes a huge stride beyond the current model's drab yet functional environment, with upgraded materials and a completely reworked center stack housing controls for the sat-nav, HVAC and infotainment systems. It's mildly mobile phone-like and you wouldn't be alone seeing shades of the new Ford Fiesta in the Astra's center console.

Additionally, there's a redesigned glovebox with removable compartments for pens and coins, an optional compartment under the passenger seat and ambient lighting piped into the door handle surrounds, gear lever recess and center stack.

Looks like it should be a strong seller in Europe. GM should consider making this an entry-level Buick.

I really like the cohesive design language Opel follows. The Ford Fiesta is a great looking car, but the Opel has just edged it out ever so slightly. I love the Euro cliche style. A Buick might work, I don't know. it would take quite a number of design changes to become a Buick.

Not Bad. And why did GM prevent these type of vehicles from entering the US? Tell me is wasn't the UAW. If GM released these types of vehicles in the US then they wouldn't be on the verge of Bankrupcy.

Just came back from a trip to Europe, and I gotta say Opel makes a great product. Test drove the new Insignia while I was there, and not only is she a beauty, but she is built rock-solid and drives great. Was also able to rent a new Ford Fiesta, another great product. Really hope this new Astra finds its way Stateside, but with GM selling Opel, not sure how likely that is, sadly. Anyway, I'm hoping VW sends over the new Golfs and Sciroccos and that one day my fellow Americans will embrace hatchbacks as much as our Euro brethren.
