It is my understanding that this car will start out as the S550 and 2 months later the S450 will follow. I believe the initial base price is supposed to be about $84,995 for the S550 and about $74,995 for the S450. There might also be an S600 with a base price tag well over $100,000. Watch out for the Mercedes method of tacking on expensive options and packages and accessories that very quickly inflate the S-Class prices to very ridiculous and lofty levels. Many of these options should be standard equipment for cars of this class. My prediction: The S-Class will be a great . . . overpriced vehicle.

Not sure about the huge wheel arches, or MB's version of I-Drive. Shifter should be on the console, where it belongs, not on the steering column, where it is on most Buicks.

Your argument is the one that is flawed, unfortunately. Toyota is not the ONLY line of cars to be more reliable than the Mercedes S-Class. The actual statistical fact is that the VAST MAJORITY of ALL CARS are more reliable than the Mercedes S-Class, and MANY by a huge margin. To make matters worse, there are not that many vehicles that are worse. The S-Class is near the bottom of the reliability list. THAT'S THE SAD TRUTH about such a beautiful car. It's a ------- shame!
