The company's board of directors are expected to make a decision on the car by the end of the year, and if it's approved it could be in production in time for the 2012 model year.

with the new Z4 costing $50-70k there's certainly room in the model lineup for an entry level, lighter, cloth topped roadster that is more of a "pure" sports car and runs in the $30's.

That get to the issue of where you're gonna position 6 series. Conv 3 is 4 seats, roomier, hardtop, faster, and handles better. What's even worse is that 6 is plainly UGLY.

BMW's product lines is a mess now, reminding me of GM or TOYOTA :)

There are a lot of complaints about their motorcycles, too, including "polarizing" transformer styling (R1200RT), and more final drive failures than customers would like.

Finally!!! a Z3 replacement since the Z4 moved upscale and out of many's price range. The Z3 was a classic in the British Sports car-sense.
