BMW To Topple Lexus To Become #1 In U.S. Luxury Sales.
Honestly to tell you, we saw this coming! After eight years in the second position, according to the latest reports, it appears that Bmw will take the lead as one of the best selling luxury brand in the United States in 2009. The reports show that Bmw sold in the last five months 76,819 while Lexus only sold 73,186. We know it will be a surprise for the Bavarian manufacturer but also a rarity when a European brand becomes number one in the U.S.A.!

Pricing and leasing incentives do wonders. BMW is beating Lexus at its own game from the 90s.

BMW is doing bad at leasing due to decreasing residuals. Lexus is doing worse. I would not take pride in beating a competitor who is on a nose dive.

I await the comments from Huu76. He'll babble on about how BMW leases stripper 328i sedans while Lexus sells fully loaded Toyota Harriers and Camry's, excuse me, RX and ES cars to diehard fanatics even willing to pay a million for these high quality cars...bla bla bla...

When Lexus his higher sales numbers, than the fight is won because of that.

When BMW has higher sales numbers, than its because they are giving them away for free, and Lexus is still better ...

No, there is absolutely no bias with this huu guy ...

Bimmers will be as exclusive as Corollas soon...

seeing that burger flippers, janitors, temps, car wash attendants and paperboys can afford these cheap to lease vehicles. We should just follow EU and use these tin cans for taxis too :)

Gee so are you saying Lexus has been as exclusive a Corollas, since the have been the top selling U.S luxury car?

theo,

Most Lexus customers don't just flock to entry level IS250, that's why number of sales for each Lexus model has equal distribution spearheaded by RX model of course.

With BMW, the perps with limited budgets and welfare cheques, flock to the lowly 3-series or even 1-series, thinking that having done that, they are now among the "elite" and better looking. That's why most of BMW sales come from 1er, 3er sales.

"Most Lexus customers don't just flock to entry level IS250"

That's true, they flock to entry level ES and RX, which account for almost half of their sales.

you're correct for comparing 3er to ES, the BrokeMiddleclassWankers can't even afford a IS250.

Interesting to know...how long has BMW been in the game of fine luxury? Compared to Lexus with only 20 years in the game?!?!...It took BMW this long to figure them out? And actually surpass them? The question is, will BMW actually hold this title as long as Lexus or even longer? In this day and age when technological competition has become more advance and easy to aquire from all aspects...THE ANSWSER IS..."BMW's reign will be SHORT LIVED!!!" For now it's a great marketing tactic...that's about it!...LMAO!!!

Yea, Lexus just has to redesign some products to get back on top. Thats all. Their lineup is stale and there timeframe for redesigns are even more rediculous.

Wasn't there a previous post stating that BMW buyers are mostly posers? Does this mean that the really rich people who buy Lexus are not spending? Is the recession gone? Is it true that the US economy in terms of car sales do not rely on the real rich (Lexus buyers), but on the posers? I'm confused.

I said this last time this topic was brought up: what about the argument of exclusivity and all the people that said Americans were stupid and that's why Lexus was the best selling luxury marque? What happens to those points now?

Right and if you consider the amount of cars they are bringing to the market, it may be that they dont want to put all of their eggs into one basket. Once a product gets old, sales start to decline. If they have more products, it wont be as noticable. So BMW's rant to bring 100 cars to the market may not be a bad idea.

Already saw my first IS-C in showroom yesterday and it looked much better than in pictures. Also i think Lexus sales will soon be helped by IS-C, HS250H, and should quickly come up with updated ES350 and LS460.
