STUD or DUD? BMW's X1 Finally Breaks Cover

And the wait is over, we have finally received the first images of the BMW X1 production model. After months of teasing and prolonged marketing, BMW reveals one of the most talked about BMW in the last few months.

Our readers’ opinions have been split for months now, some of us enjoy the look of the new X1, while others don’t see the purpose of a new entry-level Sports Activity Vehicle. The BMW X1 will initially launch in Europe and we expect to see the X1 in the U.S. past 2010.

The X1 is mainly powered by diesel engines, five of these models will represent the core of the X1 family. The most powerful X1 model, xDrive28i, will be the powered by a petrol engine which outputs 258 horsepower and 228 lb-ft(310Nm) of torque at 2,600 rpm.

The highest end X1 diesel model will be sold under the xDrive23d naming convention and produces 204 horsepower and 295 lb-ft(400Nm) of torque at 2,000 rpm. This is the second fastest X1 vehicle with 0 t0 62 mph in 7.3 seconds.

Looks good. I need to replace my aging Saab 9-2x and the X1 and MB GLK are my current top picks.
All will come down to pricing.

Well, if you like the X3's styling, then you should love the X1's as well.

Headlights look too big and the brown-ish color is not a good choice. This lands with a big thud. DUD!

Interesting!! The front looks like a wide-open clown-like mouth
below two huge nostrils. Who cares!! I am sure it PERFORMS like
a true BMW.

Anyone who buys this car should reevaluate themselves and be incarcerated by the fashion police.

Yeah... I have to agree... it's pretty ugly.

The exterior's better than i thought it would be--a little less awkward than the concept vehicle. but since it looks 95% just like the concept, it's still awkward. maybe it'll grow on me. i'd be curious to see what the refresh will look like once they color code the bumpers too.

However, the interior is GORGEOUS! like a cross between an X5 and the new Z4. i particularly like the shot of the cream interior from the passenger's side where you could see the doors, dashboard and console. Those lines, those curves, those subtle bulges. HOT lol. BMW's interiors are really coming together now--very fluid, dynamic, luxurious yet still very BMW.

Looks like Chinese Geely knockoff of the X3

The exterior is way better than i thought.Interior is decent. They should paint the black plastic thats around the whole car, wont make it look as cheap.Either way these are probably going to sell...a lot.

Very close to concept and it's ugly. Also from some angles it looks like Audi Q5. Interior is ok but the navigation section is bland.

I guess you can say it looks pretty nice for a BMW......

not really a compliment though.

The front-end overhang is truely ugly. Interior looks slightly better.

I understand that this is a "European mostly" car. I wonder how it will do in the U.S.. Being built in Germany, where as the new X3 will be built in the U.S. saving lots of money, the X1 won't be to far the the X3 in price.

"build in Germany" has no bearing to the clueless, just make the roundel badge nice and shiny and the airheads will buy it.

Most X3, X6, Z4 and X5 owners still thinks they've purchased a "German Made" vehicle.

Duh, think for a second Sector. My comments have nothing to do with the public perseption of where the car was made. It's the cost of where the car is bulit. At one time BMW was saving $10.00 per hour per employee on the cars built in Spartanburg. Its probably greater now with the Dollar/Euro exchange rate.

That's car is nothing to write home about. Looks like BMW's version of the infinti EX. LOL!!

Maybe it's me but BMW seems to be losing thier edge when it comes to aesthetics. That car just looks mis-proportioned and the interior dash design looks like something out of the 70's. The flat dash that seems to be the hallmark of all current BMWs is horrible. I'm sorry but if BMWs didn't drive well, they would be the laughing stock of all the car makes. Take away BMW's performance and you'll end up with an odd looking car, with a plain boring interior. Not to mention things like crude looking brake calipers (while all the other makes are painting thier Brake Calipers to a nice finish (or use Brembos) BMW brakes look about as exicting as Toyota Camry Brakes. There's more but I'm not going to get into it.

Next!!!

The BMW X1 looks great.

It doesn't look like a pansy SUV like the one's by Acura, Infiniti and Lexus.

EL34, don't be bitter because this X1 looks worse than all the SUVs you just mentioned. Oops! too late...

Actually, much better than I thought. Looks pretty sharp from some angles, and the interior lines flow perfectly. Love the interior design.
