Twist Of Fate Or Justice Served? Ford Outsells Toyota For Third Month In A Row

Twist Of Fate Or Justice Served? Ford Outsells Toyota For Third Month In A Row

For the third month in a row, Ford Motor Co. outsold the Japanese juggernaut in the United States, still a crucial and rich market amid this nagging recession. In June alone, the Dearborn automaker reported an 11 percent year-over-year decline in monthly sales to 148,153 cars and trucks, compared to Toyota's 34.6 percent slide to 131,654 vehicles.

And this: General Motors Corp. -- beleaguered and bankrupt, its dealer body jittery and brand image suspect, its only willing lender the Treasury -- so far this year has outsold Toyota 947,518 to 770,449, according to Autodata Corp. Partly evidence of Toyota's strong presence in, and dependence on, the imploding California market?

Yes, but what else?

For the first three months of the year, Toyota lost more money than Ford and even GM. Since then, the Japanese automaker has replaced its president with a scion of the founding family, 53-year-old Akio Toyoda, who promises a "back to basics" push for the industry's richest automaker even as more troubles emerged in the first weeks of his new assignment.

Uh oh, congrats to FORD! Nice to see somebody who is trying hard - and on top of that withouth Chapter 11 - having success!

... In other news: Toyota is also stumbling in Europe.

Ford will be in the "RED" for at least another year...despite their great sales achievements...I give them praise for being able to get out of the hole and make action, without the full aid from the "CraackHouse"...I mean WhiteHouse...LMAO!!!

You know, its not all that surprising. Take a look at each companies lineups. Ford's offerings are exciting and new - several very good offerings. Toyota's seems bland in comparison.

Regardless, congrats to Ford and keep doing what your doing.

Ive been saying it for awhile. Ford will be at the top in no time. They were severely mismanaged for a long time, and now under their new leadership (since 2006) theyve been turning everything around.

And what do I find so interesting in their lineup, you ask?

A v8 powered RWD Mustang that nothing can touch for under 30k thats practical and reliable.

The new Fusion which is the best hybrid on the market.

The flex, which is a sublime family hauler.

The upcomming Fiesta and Focus, which will completely change the small car segment.

Toyota has lost its way making "safe" boring cars. People are getting bored.

Ford is more than happy to step in with its superior products.

JUSTICE - and touche Obliv. Look down the line-up and there is no comparison in terms of interesting vehicles:

Fiesta > Yaris (not even close)
Focus > Corolla (see above)
Fusion > Camry (sporty sedan vs beige sedan)
Taurus > Avalon (great design vs road barge)
Edge > Venza (segment leader vs holy copy cat Batman)
F-150 > Tundra (see above)

Yeah, yeah I know -- Toyota has the Prius, and Ford has the Mustang. Passions of the companies simply lie in different places ...

Ford shows a renewed passion for their products
Toyota showcases their passion for efficiency

Where does your passion lie?

The 370z is a 2 seater. It doesnt directly compete with the Mustang, although the Mustang is kind of in a niche market, and theyre compared quite often. The Mustang will be much cheaper to insure and maintain, and offers a v8. Its fuel consumption is even better, and used regular.

The wrx cant compare to the mustang on any performance issue. The STI comes close, but its also 35k+

ROFL..."Twist of Fate or Justice Served?"...how about neither! Where I'm from there is a difference in giving away 150,000 vehicles in a month versus actually selling for profit 130,000 vehicles in a month!!!

I'll take Toyota's bottom line of actualy "SALES" versus Ford's bottom line of give aways any day of the week. Wonder if the author of this article checked the "incentives" and actual profit per vehicle sold??? I know, I know, America's gone socialist and making a profit is a bad thing and all, but really it puts food on the table as you socialist loving fools are about to find out. What was U.S. unemployment today: 24 year record high...9.5%. Oh well, you get what you ask for: socialism rewards failure, rewarding failure promotes failure, thus before long the U.S. will become nothing but failure...

I'll keep my Toyota, you can have your Ford and their service department...

Regards.

Shempy,

Toyota directly & indirectly employs roughly a quarter a million people in your country. Maybe you should STFU and learn something. Of course, I'm sure you're just another socialist loving obama supporter and like seeing more & more Americans out of work. OK, then you win...Toyota should leave your once great country and take its NON-Union, Non-socialist loving, maney making jobs to another country!

You're not a real smart person, are you???

;-)

Good for them .... but still wouldn't buy one.....probably has more to do with all the incentives their offering compared to Toyota.
