Don't drink and drive this Fourth of July weekend

Forty years ago, my own mother was killed by a drunk driver. She was the first car off a green light when the other car sped through a red light and tee-boned her car, killing her instantly, leaving my father a widow and her four children without their mother. I was barely four years old, but my siblings were old enough that they have memories of the policeman coming to our home to tell us the bad news. They remember her funeral, though have no memories of the event, or any of my mother who was taken away before she was even 30 years old.

It is because of this, that I have a personal interest in the eCard being circulated by The Century Council for the Fourth of July holiday that reminds people to stay safe this Independence Day and not drive drunk.

I hope you will watch the video and remember to be safe this holiday weekend

Sorry for your loss.

The first friend I had that died was also a victim of a drunk driver. It actually happened over the 4th of July weekend too.

Be safe everyone!

I have "friends" who aren't even allowed to drink nor drive yet, yet they still do so (many times both) anyways.

Sigh... there's nothing much I can do about them. Telling their parents only makes them try to avoid their parents even more (Believe me; I have). Reporting them to officials wouldn't make them better people. Rehabs? I'm still busy trying to get my work done, while keeping my family safe. Frankly, I am helpless with the other troublemakers that are all over the place.

For now, I can only make sure the little ones I often see don't grow up to be like some people I know.

Worldofluxury:

Its attitudes like that that keep the DWI'ers repeating the same offences.

When people get away with something, they are less inclined to think of the consequences. If they are punished, it makes them think of the punishment every time the temptation arises.

I feel there is far too little punishment for Drink Drivers and hence the trend is not being reduced.
There should be a 2 strikes and you're OUT policy on drink drivers, and out should mean complete Ban on driving.

Also If a driver being drunk is the cause of an accident in which another person is killed then the defendant should be charged with Murder as the act was Premeditated.

Absolutely! I was lucky to survive in a similar accident with a drunk driver.

If the govt really cared about the people they would implement breathalyzers in cars of people with the conviction of dui years ago. Nope as long as they get our tax dollars they do not really care.

Its not the governments responsibility. Its up to all of us to think and be responsibile in everything. Stop looking at government for solutions.

The government will look to more stupid measures if we rely on them.

"Don't drink and drive this Fourth of July weekend"?!! What the fxxk does that mean? so you are saying it's ok to drink and drive on the other days? You DON'T drink and drive ALL THE TIME, not just this one weekend. What a stupid statement!

it's a similar line of reasoning why many people don't celebrate certain holidays: be thankful all the time, call mother everyday...
